Trump jumps pump line

'Celebrity Apprentice' special treatment has gas-deprived New Yorkers fuming

politico.comThere is no gas shortage in New York City -- if your name is Donald Trump. This weekend, according to Gawker, a BP station in Yonkers was opened specifically for 18 "Celebrity Apprentice All Stars" vans and closed again after they filled up.

The fleet arrived to find that activity at the gas station had already attracted a long line of motorists (despite a sign reading "No Gas"). Yonkers police blocked the line's access to the station so the vans could pull in and help themselves.

Vans are traditionally used to shuttle "Celebrity Apprentice" cast members to and from the tasks featured on the show. According to a letter Gawker attributes to a member of the show's crew, this season, they are also transporting crew members with no other means of getting to work.

Television shows always receive special treatment from the cities in which they shoot. And although people complain when streets are cordoned off to facilitate sets and VIP parking, most accept this as a price to pay for the millions of dollars in tourism these shows help generate.

Yet rarely does an example of this preferential treatment put a television show so at odds with the community that hosts it. New York has been plunged into a state of emergency by Hurricane Sandy: Gas is needed to aid in cleanup and search efforts. And 18 "Celebrity Apprentice" crew members could have been paid to sit in seven-hour gas lines along with everyone else.

"Bodies are floating in NJ, old people are still stranded and hungry and cold, (and) people are bringing guns to gas stations," commented one Gawker reader. "Put a pause on the show and … help those (expletive) people."

Added another commenter: "Next time disaster strikes, I hope we send in only TV crews to assist those in peril. FEMA, first responders, and the National Guard can sit back and watch how it's done."

How do you feel about Donald Trump receiving this preferential treatment during a state of emergency?

"Celebrity Apprentice All Stars" premieres Sunday, March 3, on NBC.

This is the guy backing Romney.

Expect more of the same for the elite if Romney is elected.

I watched the first year. I no longer will give my time nor intelligence to this man. His show has never been #1 (though he boasts that it is). Why isn't he helping the people of NY & NJ put your money where your mouth/hair is. I bet if he did write a check it would bounce!

How can one individual be soooo out of touch with what is going on all around him???  This shows a total lack of empathy & ability to relate with people.  Those who are in the position to help at this time - should be doing everything in their power to aid their fellow citizen.  This is absolutely revolting.

if not for the marxist hate-the-'rich' utopians, who value 'clean' dirt over human welfare, we would not have gas shortages or even more than DOUBLE gas prices, since the marxist Obama became the decider of what we should do with our money.

if you voted for Obama, you don't care about energy independence more than you are bigoted against 'the rich'.  that is not an American value; it is a marxist value, and nothing to be proud of but everything to reject and be defeated.

having contempt for 'the rich' is what is the definition of Marxism, for all you so-called college-'educated' (what you are in debt for overpaying for).  it has NO PLACE in this country.  if you look down your pointed nose at 'the rich', that is a value not welcome in this great country, the same country you are burying in debt.

I think people who need it for generators, or to get to work for real jobs, should get the preferential treatment not some so called reality show. That's what's wrong with this country. Money is more important than doing the right thing.

That is just beyond wrong and I used to kind of like him. Why do people like Trump think they are so much better than the rest of us or the ones that are still suffering and that they are Entitled to getting and doing what they want. Shame, Shame on you Trump.

Another obscenely rich Republican who gives "the feeling of entitlement" a whole new meaning!!  Some people have NO shame.  And they complain that people in the 47% have A "FEELING OF ENTITLEMENT"!  Hypocrisy at it's finest!!

There ya go!

Trump is a piece of crap, and now everyone, especially New Yorkers, know it.

People still without power, water, a place to stay, but Trump's show goes on.

It would've been more admirable of Trump and NBC if they had their 18 crew members wait in line for gas like us "regular" people.

Now I know why he likes "nit wit" Mitt so much.

I guess I'll be scratching off Celebrity Apprentice and all of their sponsors off of my list.
