'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Who Got the Last Laugh?

Margaret Cho goes out with grace

By Kate Mulcrone Oct 5, 2010 8:07PM

Margaret Cho spent the last two weeks of this competition trying to come back from her rather disastrous debut waltz, but she just couldn’t stick the landing. Her rainbow-fringed cha-cha was a real improvement over her previous two routines, but it just wasn’t enough. The "notorious" comedian was a good sport as she talked about how much she enjoyed the show, and she and Louis gamely twirled around a bit as the band played "You Can’t Always Get What You Want." (It was certainly less dramatic than last week, when Michael Bolton made quite the farewell speech.)

This was the first truly tough elimination of the season, and it's only going to get tougher from here on out.

Here’s how everyone else did this week:

Audrina Patridge

Our reality star edged Jennifer out of first place with a mesmerizing and moving waltz: Tony and Audrina achieved a perfect balance of emotion and technique. Audrina has come a long way in just three weeks and I can’t wait to see what she does next.

Kurt Warner

Kurt and Anna's sunny-side up foxtrot was spectacular. Kurt’s posture was great -- his shoulders were neither too loose or too tight -- and his rhythm and footwork were pretty good too. There was a little slip-up when Anna was coming out of a spin, but hey, this was week three.

Jennifer Grey

Second place! Derek and Jennifer's high kicking, twirl-happy samba was action packed, though Carrie Ann complained that the pair was out of sync during the middle of the routine. Eh, it was a fluke. They'll knock us dead next week.

Brandy

Brandy and Maks put their differences aside to show us all a thing or two about samba. Her hip work was nothing short of fantastic -- crucial in a samba -- but her arm movements were a bit gawky for my taste. Still, at this point in the competition solid footwork and good rhythm should be enough to keep her dancing for quite a while yet.

The Situation

It seemed like the judges hated this unconventional foxtrot, but they picked it for this week's encore! Maybe they just wanted ABC to have to pay twice to fire up the ol' fog machine. The Situation's footwork was decent but his posture was poor and his head wasn’t in the dance at all. But at least he’s having fun with it.

Florence Henderson
I love Team Florky, but Florence's footwork during this week's waltz was more than a little shaky. Of course, the waltz is one of the more emotional ballroom dances, and Florence brought a touching solemnity to the routine.

Kyle Massey

His waltz was technically quite a coup -- Kyle’s lines are perfect and he actually does lead, unlike some of our gentleman waltzers -- but it had a little too much of the cheese factor for me. Len, always the stickler, did point out that Kyle’s footwork is lacking. The waltz wasn’t Kyle's best dance to date, but it was still pretty awesome.

Rick Fox

Who says NBA stars can't samba? Certainly not me. Rick absolutely sizzled out on the floor. His hip action was loose in all the right ways. He and Cheryl dance well together in spite of their rather ridiculous difference in height. Watch out, Kurt ... and everyone else, actually.

Bristol Palin

Mark and Bristol's halting, off-kilter foxtrot was tough to watch. Three weeks in Bristol still hasn't hit her stride. She squeaked by this week, and anything can happen next week.

Who won the week? Audrina, Jennifer, and Brandy
Who needs to step it up? Bristol, The Situation and Florence

I knew mr/ms cho was gonna get the boot after that God awful in your face Gay Pride display! Come on, we watch for entertainment not for shove it down your throat homosexual politic agenda bullcrap or any other agenda for that matter.

And all of you kool aid drinkin haters stop picking on Bristol just because she is Sarah's daughter.  She is no dancer and is the only REAL person on that show who is what the show was intended to be about.  People who have NO dance experience yet show improvement each week. Have you seen Obama dance?  He dances like a white person with a little rhythm.

Sad to see Margaret go last night. She seemed like she was trying hard. And I love Louie! I really think the Situation should be next to go, he doesn't seem to be improving. After he is gone, it'll be real hard to pick the rest are all so good. I want Tony to win so I guess i'm pulling for Audrina. But I'll always be a Florence fan!!!

I would rather know ahead of time who goes home rather than watching the show and waiting for thoses 10 second pauses that drive me nuts.  Say it and get it over with!  That's why I DVR the show and skip commercials and pauses.  Football and basketball dudes are going strong!

I am all for Jennifer and Derrick.  I think he is the best always of all the pros no matter what Len says.  He seams to really put his all into it.  I agree that the show needs a little more spice and maybe new theme nights will help.  I think the judging needs to be more talent and less public vote, judges votes should be worth a lot more.  It becomes a popularity contest not based on talent.  There are always some that should go home and don't and some that go home way to early no names needed.  I think they are kept for the affect and attract viewers.   I am getting tired of the same old same old and hope Jennifer takes it all.

Bristol is way better than The Situation.  She is definitely not a pro, we all knew that going in and she's not trying to put herself up as one,  but she does move rather gracefully, and compared to Bolton, Hasselhoff and Kate Gosslin...she's head and shoulders over them.  I though Jennifer Grey's Samba was great yesterday.  I never noticed their goof up, but then I'm not a professional.  I was surprised that Margaret Cho turned out to be a fairly decent dancer.   Although Monday's dance was NOT good.  The two jocks...yummm.  Seems many people's critique of Bristol Palin is colored because she is Sarah's daughter.  She seems like a sweet kid.   There are been plenty of non "stars" on all of the past shows...as well as this one. That's what enjoyable about the show...it's like looking at real people, not entertainers in any field and terrified and self conscienous  like we would be.

God help me for saying this but the "situation" is growing on me.  I now think he is just a good humored guy with a horrible nickname....he can't dance but at least he is funny & has improved a little.  Poor Bristol is just not getting that she has no zest & plays it too safe.  I like her & think she is a sweet girl but also think her time might be up soon.

I like Kyle too but don't think he will win either.  I hope the show steps it up soon cause it is kind of getting a little boring.  Guess I will just have to root for Macks even though I am not to crazy about Brandy.

When ABC stops taking pros and dressing them up as amateurs (pussycat dolls, a certain dirty dancer) and pairing them with the SAME PRO no less, then I'll start watching again.  In the meantime, I'll watch Brandy and Maks on youtube and leave it at that.

Please people wake up and toss "The situation"  talk about being full of yourself.  If I have to see him puff his chest another minute I will puke!  He needs to go before that idiot Snookie shows up to watch him!  Help America - stop voting for awful!

West Coast people don't have to read the results posted if they want to be surprised...duh.

Bristol and The Situation are horrible.  but isn't that the point of the show.  Regardless of their "star status" being questionable, they were invited by the show on the premise they are non-dancers; and the audience wants to see their progress from week to week.  No different than all the other participants.  Their heart is in the trying, and I think voters recognize that they ARE trying -- not cry baby divas who think their star-power is as big as their ego.

This group of dancers is the most closely matched I can remember since season one; and to me that makes it most enjoyable.  It's not a popularity contest when one casts a vote.  You vote for the dance and participant who you feel did best.  It may change from week to week.  So Jennifer seems to have the edge, but Audrina is moving up in esteem.  The two athletes are staying in the race.  Florence is not humiliating herself like a Cloris or Buzz.    So just enjoy the show for what entertainment it's giving us.

Both The Situation and Bristol are too painful to watch!  Please go home.

Ooooh, here's an idea, you West Coast whiners ~ DON'T READ SHOW RECAPS BEFORE THE SHOW AIRS.

Wow, you guys really ARE dumb, aren't you??

Let's face it, as far as, contestants go, they are all really bad.  I do like watching Florence though, at least it makes watching it possible without falling asleep.  Bristol really sucks, her partner would be better off just dancing with a cardboard copy of her instead of pretending that this woman has any talent.

I really wish they wouldn't post this. It still hasn't aired on the west coast so they just lost a whole bunch of viewers for the results show including me.

Enough is enough!

Bristol needs to go!  Florence sorry but you need to pack it and go!  I mean yes, Margaret was on her way out the door but she should have held it open for Bristol and Florence!

DWTS you are loosing me!

There is a reason why the "Situation" has lasted as long as he has & it's not because other people have been awful

Bristol needs to go as does the "Situation" -- both are painful to watch and have absolutely no business being on any show, let alone DWTS!  Bristol cannot dance (no rythm or entertainment value at all).  And I can't believe that the Situation even considers what he's doing as dancing... it's worse than the performance of Bolton who was awful!  The judges need to get it right!

thanks for letting us know, since it hasn't shown on the west coast yet, I don't have to watch it now.

Honesty, I didn't think Audrina was that good or better than Jennifer.  I didn't see what the judges see in her dance, I just didn't get it.  I still think Jennifer did better than Audrina.  I am aiming for Jennifer to take it all, all the way.

By the way, I still find Bristol hard to watch.  I really don't care for her.  She is no star.  Send her home.

And the Situation.... send him home too.  I just couldn't stand Karina the partner!
