Howard Stern Already Under Fire

Parents Television Council urges corporations to boycott 'America's Got Talent'

By Kenny Herzog May 7, 2012 9:42AM
You know the old saying: The more things change, the more Howard Stern will forever be shadowed by protesters and censors with distaste for his incendiary persona on "The Howard Stern Show."

Earlier this morning, TMZ claimed to have exclusively obtained and published a letter that was allegedly drafted by the Parents Television Council (PTC) and sent to all "America's Got Talent" advertisers. The scathing memo insists that the radio host-turned-"AGT" judge's "reputation for sleaze and misogyny is well known." It elaborates that, "To our knowledge, his only previous judging experience consisted of looking at insecure, naked young women and telling them whether or not they were hot enough to pose for Playboy." This last point is not entirely true, but we digress.

Bing: More on "America's Got Talent" | Howard Stern | PTC

As it happens, PTC wasn't exactly hiding from the letter, which they openly posted on their own site just a few hours after it was leaked on TMZ. The official document also clarifies that it represents excerpts of several letters sent last week from the organization's president, Tim Winter, to more than 90 corporations.

PTC's goal? Encouraging ad agencies to "consider alternative network television programming" for their money and prematurely elude what "will likely result in a sharp increase in explicit content" during the family oriented competition series. Because, as we know, well-endowed corporations generally uphold superlative values.

Neither Stern himself nor NBC have responded as of yet, although we're sure PTC has received a grievance or two from a mysterious, concerned viewer only known as Baba Booey.

UPDATE: Dan Isett, director of public policy for PTC, responded to our request for comment by clarifying that, "If sponsors are going to risk their hard-earned corporate brand on sponsoring a show with him attached to it, they need to go into it with their eyes wide open," adding, "If Stern's gonna behave himself, so be it. The question is, can he do that, and will sponsors pay for it if he doesn't?"

"America's Got Talent" premieres Monday, May 14, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

What is discussed is the quality and appropriateness of programming on tv on prime time, which is consider the family slot.  AGT is aired on prime time television, and it is supposed to be a family show! Many kids and teenagers watch it because it represents the dreams of many!
I still remember a late night show that Howard Stern was producing himself (because he couldn't find any sponsors for it), in which he interviewed only women, and they all had to strip down their waists and expose their breasts to do the interview.
Howard Stern himself looks like he's into a destructive path himself.  He has made for himself a reputation of being vulgar, rude and disrespectful to women. So it's no wonder they are questioning his participation in a family show.
AGT is supposed to be a show of discovering new, fresh talent. And see what they bring. If they don't qualify, a constructive criticism will do better than pointing them into lowering the quality of their craft and going into vulgarity just to get ratings!

True Sirius pays Stern for what he does, but that does not make it right or moral.  When I have seen him a very few times it was on very late night TV some years ago.  He had no respect for any woman, tho' none on his show deserved respect. Others who had a part on his show were just as bad.  America does have talent, but if he is on the show, they should change the title

because this boost of a person of this caliber by hiring him as a Judge is anything but the America I know and stand for.  The same goes for Bill Maler.  My choice  is not to ever watch either of

them and I hoped other Americans voice their opinions.

I would like a list of advertisers so I can stop buying their products. I don't watch this show, but anything that has Stern or Imus init, is bound to be smut. If NBC wants to have him, air the show at midnight, when kids and more discerning adults don't watch.

I, and from what I've read here, many other people whould not have to sugjected to foul language and obscene opinions from someone like Stern. Whoever likes him, can pay to see and hear him, but I for one will not spend my money on advertiser's products so he can make a fortune. Let's face it, like Stern, one doesn't need to be talented to spew foul garbage.

So rabbitb; obviously Matt Lauer has no morals because he happens to be one of Howard's Stern friends. Oh and the band Train since they thanked Howard Stern when they won their last grammy? Next are you going to say you don't like gay people because Howard Stern stands up for them?

Somehow it seems to be OK to violate the First Amendment rights in the name of Political Correctness.

People who don't like Howard Stern are free to turn his program off.

As soon as the PC crowd can silence Howard Stern, they will go on  to silence all dissenters. At that point America is doomed. (we are well on our way)

Before I put together a good comment, I would like to ask:  What can Howard Stern bring to a show about music and singing? I watched some of his shows on tv (which by the way, were disgusting and disrespectful to women), but I've neve heard he knows about singing and music!

I will not be watching America's Got Talent while Howard Stern is a part of it. He is classless & will only bring his sleeze factor to the show.

Too bad the PTC doesn't have the good sense to wait and see whether Howard Stern behaves himself before condeming him.

It's funny to hear any of you say Howard Stern degrades women. You obviously don't know a damn thing or have listened to his show. Everyone woman has the choice to be on his show and he compliments them the whole time they are there. He has three beautiful daughters, a beautiful wife, and his partner Robin has been with him for over 30 years. Howard Stern is very intelligent and supports an animal shelter. I'm a 30 year old woman and the highlight of my morning is listening to his show while I drive to work. When the AGT ratings go through the roof I am going to laugh hysterically like I do when I listen to his genius daily.

If you don't like him don't watch the show or listen to his radio show.  Get a life all of you right wing religious wacknuts who want to push us back to the victorian age, and quit trying to enforce your rules on the rest of us.

Does the PTC take responsibility for their own kids too, or just everyone elses?  Do the advertisers not know already who Howard Stern is?  Boycott their products? Fine, the ratings will speak for itself.  Money talks and NBC still likes to make money.  Besides, if anyone that is complaining about Howard being on the show probably hasn't listened to 5 minutes of his show and heard him say repeatedly that it will not be the Howard Stern Show, it will be AGT and he will be a judge.  That's it.  (Too bad for the rest of us that wanted to see transsexual dwarf hookers, juggling kittens)

Maqtease-you feel it's not right that I comment on a story and you criticize and attack me. Maybe you could actually comment on the story too. That might be fun
