'Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars': Comeback queen

Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani take home the Mirrorball Trophy

By Kate Mulcrone Nov 27, 2012 10:12PM

'Dancing With the Stars'/ABC

We have our champions: Melissa and Tony! There was so much bleeping after Tom announced their names! I don't even know who it was shouting obscenities -- maybe Joey Fatone? -- but he was shouting with joy. Everyone onstage went absolutely insane: Melissa was actually crowd surfing. It was so great to see her take home the Mirrorball Trophy after missing so narrowly a few seasons back.

Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough were the runners-up. Derek talked about how much Shawn had inspired him over the season and how she'd even made him believe in himself again.

Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy came in third. Kelly called Val "the most incredible man and dancer out there." Tom pointed out that the crowd was on its feet for Kelly.

In the final round, Kelly danced a jive that was nearly flawless. Carrie Ann quipped, "There was one little slip, and I think that was due to body oil" (Score: 28.5/30). Melissa performed a samba that somehow made booty-shaking look tasteful, but had some trouble with the song. This dance wasn't actually bad, it was just the first sour note Melissa has hit in weeks (Score: 28.5/30). Shawn danced a jaunty cha-cha that brought down the house. Bruno told Shawn she was going out with a bang (Score: 30/30)

"Dancing With the Stars" will return in the spring.

i don't doubt about shawn's experience and expertise.  what i am saying is the dance per-se.  to be a dancer, you must have long limbs.  lifting is a part of  a dance routine.  you can have many lifts as you can if the dance required that particular routine - but not TUMBLING.  in the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF DANCING, WHICH TONY HAD WON, YOU WILL NOT QUALIFY IF YOU TUMBLE.  LIFTING IS FIND.  OK?

only a fools fool would think so, unless for cancer reconstuction, as they can cause it as well

Shawn and Derek really should have won the trophy.  Melissa and Tony were wonderful, but Shawn and Derek were super wonderful.  That old slogan is really appropriate here:  "We was robbed."

Is it really "sad"? You & others take this so seriously. The film "Quiz Show" showed us competitions may be fixed -- the difference being that Quiz Show was a tragedy that ruined lives and had horrible repercussions for all involved. Too bad if Dancing is fixed ; the public should not be duped & preferably the dancers judged fairly, but in the scheme of things -- should we get worked-up over this? For those who sense of justice is deeply wounded, demand to see how the results are determined?

The exposure for those who make it to the semi finals/finals has to be beneficial to all aspects of their lives. Shawn will not suffer any career set backs from coming in 2nd and Derek is a big talent with loads of personal charm & we will no doubt see him performing, choreographing & involved in many creative projects as he is young & has it all -- expecting to follow a brilliant career for Derek. If Bristol Palin had won then I think that would have called for protest & an investigation!

I agree with Adam Levine who referred to The Voice as a weird strange competition (or something like that -- I too flip between the two shows)...this aptly describes Dancing as well. Is the public the best judge of musicianship or dancing skill? No, so maybe the results are not fixed?

Dancing is amusing and even astonishing to watch. The last thing I feel about the show is that it is "sad" due to some implication of moral depravity. For that I look elsewhere -- e.g. at a recent documentary about girls slyly abducted into slavery, or school children living out of their cars -- almost any current events tv, the news -- of course -- will leave one reeling from worldwide tragedies.  Dancing with the Stars serves as a wonderful distraction from these horrors.

I really like Melissa.  She has the most qualified dance physique, i.e. log legs, long extremities.  I am surprised why the let Shawn Johnson joined.  She has short legs, she is good for an athlete not as a dancer.  Besides, there is what they call Theatrical dancing which Tony and Melissa just did..lifting.  What Shawn showed is acrobatic.  THAT IS NOT DANCING!!   I am glad she is  not the winner.  Also, to be a good dancer, it carries with it how you carry your dress, beautiful dress.  To be a great dancer, one should carry her feet, not the feet carry her, unlike athletes, they carry their whole weight.  Also, your feet must caress the floor, especially on smooth dances, like fox trot, waltz, paso doble and tango.  KUDOS FOR MELISSA, I REALLY LIKE HER TO WIN ESPECIALLY TONY, WHO HAS BEEN A WORLD DANCE CHAMPION, IT IS ABOUT TIME TONY THAT YOU GOT A MIRROR BALL...

YA for Tony and Melissa.  Many "Stars" have had professional training at some point in their lives.  WHO CARES.  Its a show for entertainment.  Get over it.

Easy to win when you have a professional dance background.  Melissa a former Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader had an enormous amount of dance training prior to being on the show.  And I agree, what constitutes her a "star"?  A reality show?  I'm done with the show after 15 Seasons.

Melissa Rycroft now qualifies as a STAR for those of you who felt she didn't belong in the competition. For someone who wasn't of "celebrity" status she wow'ed her fans & the Judges & she & Tony won the trophy! Oh sweet victory!

I wanted Melissa to win from the start - her or Sabrina Bryan.  I was voting heavily for them since both of them should have won during their seasons.  I loved Kelly Monoco but as the season went on her dancing began to faultier.  I was surprised she made it to the finals.  I definitely did not want to see Shawn Johnson win.  I thought it was unfair that she won the first time as her free style dance was more gymnastics than dancing.  As a gymnast, I felt she had an unfair advantage over the other contestants.  Melissa winning was the best moment of all 14 Seasons.  It was very satisfying to see her win and Tony was soooo ecstatic.  I was thrilled for him too.  This was one of DWTS's best seasons.  Voting was very hard to do since eveyone was sooo good.  I can't wait for next season to begin.  This is the only reality/talent show I watch.

I am thrilled that Melissa & Tony won !  Love Shawn but this was a ballroom dance contest not a tumbling contest.  Don't stand there and say you respect the rules when you continue to break them.  The other dancers did a great job without breaking rules.  Tony is in every way a class act and a gentleman.  Melissa is elegant and a true lady. In my opinion they deserved the win.

I quit watching after the first season.  I was happy when Kelly Monaco won the first season.  But then came the whole John O'Hurley should have won stuff.   Then the whole dance off to see who really won.  It was all sour grapes.  So I quit watching.  I agree that some people are not your ordinary "star", but the fact that people keep watching reality shows and making people famous for being on them, they do qualify as stars for this competiotin.  I would much rather watch Melissa Rycroft than any Kardashian.  I also will not be watchng American Idol this year.  I am not a fan of Nicki Minaj, so why bother.  I understand that they are changing things up and trying to appeal to a new younger hipper crowd.  But, personally,  I think Randy, Mariah and Keith would have been just fine.

This was a very entertaining season and had many excellent dancers and good routines. I thought Shawn and Derek had the whole package...great entertainers. Derek is leaving the show with 3 trophies and I think the judges felt it was time for Tony and they did very well and fun to watch.  I t would get so discouraging if someone different does not win. It is only a show.

From the beginning the judges felt that they had to give Melissa the trophy.  Don't get the attraction. Certainly not her dance quality.

"I agree with Harry766  The show is supposed to be "DANCING WITH THE STARS". In what way is Melissa considered a STAR.

Will not be watching the show."

Seriously, you're are still kvetching about that 14 SEASONS LATER? Other reality t.v. stars in the past few seasons weren't enough to prompt you to quit watching, like Stacy Keibler, Kim Kardashian, Holly Madison, Jake Pavelka, Bristol Palin, Kate Gosselin? Really, Melissa Rycroft's 2ND appearance is what sent you over the edge?

Watch the show or don't watch the show. Just quit bellyaching about it.

I am very happy for Tony; he has had some very bad partners in the past.  They owed him a decent partner after he had to endure that POS Kate!

Any of those three deserved to win.  They were all great but Shawn and Derek were my favorites.
