Five Talkin': Memorable Pepsi Super Bowl Ads

As the soda giant pulls out (that's what she said) from The Big Game, we look back at their noteworthy spots

Apparently seeking to take advantage of this whole viral marketing thing the kids keep talking about, Pepsi is bowing out of buying advertising space during this year's Super Bowl. According to their spokes-folks, they're dedicating their resources to some cockamamey project that redistributes a portion of them to community rebuilding. Philanthropy schmilanthropy. Give me more talking animals and celebrity hijinks!

Anyhow, it seemed a fitting time to hop into the (still patent-pending) TV Buzz Time Machine and revisit some of the carbonated confectioner's most water-cooler-worthy Super Bowl spots.

BOB DYLAN GOES (SODA) POP
The insinuation that will.i.am is somehow carrying the torch of creative expression first furiously lit by Dylan actually makes me throw up in my mouth a little. But look! Dylan! And John Belushi! Me like them. Me like Pepsi.

OZZY AND CAROL BRADY DO THE TWIST
You ever start to think that they only hire celebrities to endorse new product lines that haven't tested particularly well, to distract us from how inane and unnecessary the beverage is? Pepsi Twist may be essentially obsolete now, but at least we know its millions of dollars went toward a hearty chuckle at Ozzy Osbourne's senility rather than, say, cancer research.

MACGYVER DIFFUSES EXHAUSTION WITH PEPSI

I actually find the whole "SNL" MacGruber thing pretty funny, if only because (unlike most of the show's material) the skits are often as mercilessly concise as an advertisement. Hey, wait. That gives me an idea...

CINDY CRAWFORD AROUSES THE YOUTH MARKET
Little known secret about when supermodels do ads for products like this. They actually fill the cans with urine.

MAKING THINGS CRYSTAL CLEAR
Clearly, Crystal Pepsi failed because it didn't capture the blind market.
