Suddenly Awkward Mackenzie TV Moments
After today's startling incest revelations, it may be hard to watch these again
By Kenny Herzog Sep 23, 2009 10:18AM

Naturally, any Mamas and the Papas records will be the hardest artifacts to revisit upon hearing of Mackenzie Phillips' ("One Day At a Time" star/Papas leader John Phillips' daughter) startling incest allegations, which detail she and dad's consensual, adult affair, beginning on the eve of her 1979 marriage.
But there's also the small matter of Mackenzie's televised body of work (even that suddenly sounds creepy).
How exactly am I supposed to go back and rent the otherwise inspiring story of two hoops-playing sisters, "Double Teamed"?
Or consider stopping upon a re-run of her guest appearance during the unfortunately titled "Viper" episode, "The Full Frankie"?
Nevermind the harrowing Meredith Baxter/Ed Asner-co-starring bulimia tale "Kate's Secret".
And you can forget it if you think I'd ever Netflix the 1980 John Gilbert/Greta Garbo biopic "The Silent Lovers," especially given that its airing overlapped so uncomfortably with Mackenzie and John's alleged transgressions.
I mean, I hate to sound crass, but the woman is peddling these revelations as part of a tell-all book and complementary "Oprah" appearance. So while it's entirely possible she's disclosing these taboo truths as very public celebrity therapy or to further dismantle the myth of the free-love era, I harbor enough curious cynicism to work through my ickiness with jest.
Now I can only wonder how her half-sis and newly whole Christian Chynna Phillips will publicly respond... Nevermind her bro-in-law and born-again freak Stephen Baldwin. It's a family affair indeed.
