'Walking Dead' fans chuckling over KFC ad placement

Jury is still out on whether AMC purposely aired endorsement after gruesome scene

'The Walking Dead' '/' AMC

AMC's hit zombie drama "The Walking Dead" is not known for its comedic elements but every now and again, funny things happen, intentional or otherwise.

The jury is still out on whether AMC purposely aired a KFC endorsement and commercial immediately after a rather gruesome scene on Sunday's episode. In case you missed it, a swarm of ravenous zombies ripped open a man and feasted on him allowing Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the gang to escape unnoticed.

After that, the screen went black, and "The Walking Dead" logo was shown followed by the image of a bucket of KFC chicken as the announcer said, "Brought to you by KFC. Come in today and taste why fresh is better."

Plus: The grossest things ever eaten on TV

Wow. It doesn't get more fresh than newly killed and still bleeding. Check it out:

If AMC is in on the joke, KFC is not. KFC spokesman Rick Maynard said in a written statement: "The placement of our brand's mention was unfortunate, and KFC has taken steps to ensure something like that does not happen again."

AMC declined comment. Meanwhile, Twitter users are still fired up about the awkward ad placement. Twitter user Harry Knowles tweeted: "Scene: Zombies feasting on guts. Cut To: The Walking Dead sponsored by KFC...Multiple folks grabbing for meat out of tub. IRONY IS ALIVE!" Knowles' tweet was retweeted 128 times.

Now, you could say no publicity is bad publicity for KFC. Unless of course you're a vegetarian trying to convince your friends to give up meat. In that case, score one for the vegetarians.

"The Walking Dead" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.

I thought it was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time! Quit whining KFC! If someone is watching Dead, they can probably stomach your chicken too.

Some people will read anything into nothing. So there was an ad... So one could think about the last scene and try hard to make a connection... Really?

That is hilarious! Some people need to get the stick out of there a$$ and lighten up some. Regardless of what you think of KFC or other fast food you can still get a chuckle out of this. Not sure why KFC was all bent out of shape, to me seems like perfect timing or luck if it wasn't planned, got people's attention didn't it? It's that the point of marketing? Not to mention the is a made up show so where's the problem? Don't see how it could be that negative. Not like it was after a news segment about someone being mauled to death by bears or something similar. Again very funny and people need to lighten up some.

I think its time

That Fried Chicken is the most unhealthy thing you can eat. And they rant about soft drinks.

What about McDonald's, Dunkin Donut, KFC they are worse than soft drinks. They should have warning lables

on all that crap just like they do for cigarettes.

I'd commented on facebook right after I watched the show and this ad placement.  The timing was perfect to remember the advertisement.  I loved it!

I cracked up when they ran that ad. Right after showing all these Zombie hands in the body. I remembered that KFC's motto was "Finger Licking Good!"  Love it.

A lot of people have WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too much time on their hands. Other people stand by with a finger on the Outrage! button their entire freakin life, just to barf their discontent all over the world, for ANYTHING. Yet other people grab for any BS to post somewhere and call it relevant. Some actually think it is.  And everybody stands by to apologize. And all these groups cross over, like those subsets you hated learning about in third grade math. Welcome to the modern age.
