Jane Fonda Signs on for 'Now What?'
Oscar winner to star in ABC mother-daughter comedy

Someone, somewhere, must have once uttered the lament that absence makes the heart grow Fonda. As in Oscar-winning, formerly controversial peace activist Jane Fonda. The 74-year-old icon hasn't appeared in many films over the past quarter-century. (And when she did, the results were disasters like "Monster-in-Law" and "Georgia Rule"). But she recently returned to top form on the small screen with a terrific guest-starring turn as a shrewd corporate executive on "The Newsroom." Following that momentum, Fonda's next move is to star in the ironically titled ABC comedy, "Now What?"Variety and Deadline are reporting that the Hollywood legend once dubbed Hanoi Jane will play a mother who moves in with her daughter, who's humiliated her by publishing a blog titled, "Dear Mom, Here's Why I Hate You ..." Because nothing spells hilarity like domestic reconciliation between generations in the wake of publicly shared revelations.
The series will draw inevitable comparisons to "$#*! My Dad Says," although the pedigree behind "Now What?" seems a bit more promising. "Pushing Daisies" writer Abby Gewanter has penned the script, and "Weeds" director/executive producer Scott Ellis will be co-EP. That is, unless you don't like either "Weeds" or "Pushing Daisies." Then you might hate this.
