First Gay Kiss on 'Days of Our Lives'

It's a new day in Salem as Will pulls in Neil

By TVDeeva Deanna Barnert Feb 23, 2012 5:43PM

The coming out of Will Horton (Chandler Massey) on "Days of Our Lives" has been the talk of daytime for well over a year. As you can see in the Feb. 23 clip above, it's finally heating up. Will is certainly not the first gay character in daytime, let alone "Days of our Lives," but he did get to plant the first gay Salem kiss caught on camera. Of course, just because he kissed a guy doesn't mean he's actually out, yet.

For months, Will has been reeling under the weight of the secret that his mom Sami (Alison Sweeney) cheated on his step-dad Rafe (Galen Gering) with her baby daddy EJ (James Scott). Will has kept a tight lid on the indiscretion, but that cat is out of the bag. When Will went out to party and let off some steam on Feb. 23, Rafe overheard him venting about Sami and EJ.

With that story is set to blow wide, a drunk Will finally had his first kiss – and it was one passionate first! Will even made the first move, grabbing the other guy, Neil, and pulling him in, but that doesn't mean he's quite ready to come out yet.

On Friday Feb. 24, the kiss continues to heat up until gay pal Sonny catches them. Will may go into denial and then try to work out his feelings with Grandma Marlena (Deidre Hall), but surprise, surprise, Sami's drama will interfere before he gets anywhere.

On Friday, Mar. 2, his father Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) returns to the canvas and it sounds like he'll be open to his son's sexual preference. The question is, how soon will he learn about it?

"Days of our Lives" airs weekdays on NBC.

the question is are they going to sustain it? Seems like after Luke came out the story died.

I think we should all sit around and hate the homosexuals in GOOD CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP!

I am a big Days fan, as well a gay man. I am happy that the show has decided to tackle this storyline with a main character that we've watched for years (the character, not the actor). Chandler Massey, who plays Will, is doing an amazing job. This reminds me of when Luke Snyder on As The World Turns came out. Great writing.  For all of the people are are using the bible as their basis for an argument, lets remember that there aren't REALLY that many references to homosexuality in the bible. And as someone (sorry don't remember who) said that the bible is just a book.. Written by man... It's not as if God himself (herself?) made it appear. It has all of the flaws and perfections of the time. AND not for nothing but it's not exactly all written by one person.... And has gone through numerous rewrites. If you don't like homosexuals, okay.. That is your right. But guess what, we aren't going anywhere. Think back to the 1950's and 1960's... Remember when African Americans weren't allowed to sit with whites? And dating and marrying was THE END OF THE WORLD? At least as far as certain people were concerned.. Look, the world didn't end.. And now I can sit with anyone I want to.. Wow.. Progress. And back a little more, women were expected to be in the house, caring for children, and behind her man.. HAD to get married. My lord..  Oh and get a job? Heaven forbid. But now look- woman can not only get a job, but they can EVEN have a child without being married. Did the world end? Nope.  Heck, a woman even ran for the office of President of the United States... And then we turned around and elected an African American man President.. Something we couldn't have done a few decades before that. If yo u think that only hetrosexual couples have the right to marry, and that marriage is for the purpose of having children all I gots to say is look at Larry King, and Donald Trump. How many times where they married each? Oh and Kim Kardashian and her 30 second marriage.. Yea clearly all different sex couples value marriage.. As far as marriage for having children? What about couples that are past the age for having children? Should they be denied?

I've already spoke my peace on here, but I can't help but comment one the following statement....

"Over 95% of psychiatrists agree that gays are messed up in the head, so instead of condoning gay behavior we should kindly tell gays to get some therapy to straighten themselves out."

I used to work for a psychiatry group of 8 physicans and let me tell you without a shadow of a doubt, AT LEAST HALF WERE GAY THEMSELVES!  So they would be saying, as doctors in the medical field, they are messed up in the head too! Get your facts staight before spewing out BS!

Again, bravo Days, for tackling the tough controversial issues!

Rachmaninoff1, it would be a little hard for homosexuality to be here as long as heterosexuality Biblically speaking. God created MAN & WOMAN first, then there's the little thing called procreating, a little difficult for same sexes to accomplish.

For Morgan416:
It's funny. It's seems I've heard so many gays say the same of straights.

And before you all  go nuts talking about hatred and bigotry and whatever, I am not a bigot. I don't hate gays. I do have a right to express my opinions on social issues, one being homosexuality.  I enjoy television and have my favorite shows like most people. I would rather never see displays of affection that have to watch gay romance.  I am not living in the dark ages. I just know what I believe is wrong and right. Homosexuality is wrong and deviant. I have known several gay men and women. None of them ever match the gay couples I see on television. They have all been nasty and degenerate, which is what I base my beliefs on, what I have seen and heard.

I am so glad I don't watch that show. I wish I could go the rest of my life without seeing another gay scene.  Religious debates aside, homosexuality is offensive and an affront to moral decency. I don't enjoy gay programming and it makes me sick at my stomach. I don't  know why the media feels the need to cram the deviant lifestyle of a few down our throats.

I have been a fan of Days for 22 years and I am excited about this new Gay story line.  I think it is very courageous of the writers to take on such a controversial subject and I applaud their honesty in telling it.  I do find it very funny that the same people that are disgusted and upset are also the same people that are fine with the demon possession of Marlena, and the adultery, and the murder, and Chloe 's prostitution.  But this innocent teenage character trying to be true to himself is enough to make them disgusted and stop watching?!?  Ironic isn't it....

Glad to see the positive comments are getting the most support here.  As it should be.  I love the bible quoting too.  And the person who said 95% of Psychiatrists say that gays are messed up in the head.  LOL!  Thanks for the laugh.  The Bible is just a book.  A historical document.  So as far as not inheriting the kingdom of God goes...um...I'll pass, thanks anyway.  You're right, I'm not "Christian" by the definition of the word but that doesn't make my views wrong.  I prefer to live my life honestly and that includes embracing all lifestyles and points of view.  I think it's great that Days and other programs are dealing with LGBTQ issues.  Younger generations are becoming more and more tolerant of alternative lifestyles and it's refreshing to see.  After all, life is too short to be unhappy and we all should be free to find our bliss.

I really had no idea the world was still so closed minded. People look around, this is life. Let everyone live and enjoy a happy life without judging. I applaud days for tackling such a storyline. I think it could help some young people out there watching that could be struggling with the same issues. Kids end up killing themselves so often because they don't have anyone to relate to, they have no one to support them. So I say YAY days. I hate to see such hatred in the world. It saddens me that people want to judge.

1 Corinthians 6: 9-10 is that all there is in the Bible Open-mouthed  and people who don't like it, just shut your ears and eyes...Smile Don't judge. you do not have the authority. And yes, it exists. Love it or hate it. Deny it or accept it. It exists as much as you are....

The program has long been one of my favorites.  Come on you guys, it is a soap opera and is like the

issues in real life.  I think the actors, the writers, and producers who make the program possible

the best.  I have thought this for many years and the airing of the gay issue does not change my opinion.  It is like every other program on television, if you don't like it, don't watch it.  If something

airs you don't agree with, turn the channel.  As for Will, he is a good actor, one of the best.

I admire all of the cast of this program.

Deal with it it will never go away
It's still wrong unless your atheist 1 Corinthians 6: 9-10.  Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

For all those that have a  difference of opinion or not, hate or don't hate, think or don't think kids should be aware of a thing called "homosexuality", or just plain don't care , the message is still the same: " Deal with it because it will never go away".  Homosexuality has been here as long as heterosexuality. If you don't believe me, just read the Old  Testament.

The Feb 23rd show of days ofour lives was disgusting and offensive I will no longer watch days of lives after several years of watching it but the gay scene was a disappointment in regards to your agenda and it enforces exactly what is wrong with this wicked world. So sorry your show has come to this. I immediately took it off my recorder and will never watch it again and probadly not watch any thing on NBC again.  Of course, you really don't care because I truly know now what your goal is.
