I love the show.  I can't wait to see the whole season.  I read a spolier.  PLease  Please don't kill off Matthew.  Matthew and Mary waited soo long to get together.  What happened on the honeymoon?  We didn't see it.

Now if this isn't a piece of work, and so reminiscent of those who live in a fantasy world, and believe me there are many of them, where life is one drama after another...Enter stage right!

I love her in Harry Potter and Sister Act 1 & 2.

Maggie Smith is absolutely marvelous.  She delivers her lines with such expression.  I have to watch each episode more than once in case I miss any zingers from her or asides from Carson.  Don't forget - "Free John Bates!"

The best line was not Lady Grantham's, it was Carson's when he described 'looking into the chaos of Gommorah'.

How can they forget her quote from Season 1 when she is talking to Lord Grantham about Matthew. He says "I thought you didn't like him?" and she says "I have plenty of friends that I don't like".
I do love the scene with her on the phone!  Great show and Maggie Smith is the best part of it..

She also plays a dowager in a movie "Gosford Park".  If you love Downton Abby you will be right at home with this movie

Did you not just love when Shirley Maclain's character started singing "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" to Maggie Smith's character...and ended with the line "I'm in love with you" and touched Maggie Smith's cheek............I was there.....that was me singing to her.......Long live the Dowager!!!!!!!!

The look on her face when Shirley Maclaine sang to her, 'Let me call you sweetheart" . It was hilarious!!

Downton Abbey is a refreshing change from all the other CRAP that you find on TV. Thank goodness for PBS. Send those contributions, Keep PBS alive!!!

I've been a Maggie Smith fan since THE VIP'S and THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODY, check out these early classics of hers.

Best Maggie Smith zinger from Series 3/Episode 1 was definitely the wry comment she made about Branson the ex-chauffeur.  Despite his efforts to dress in a presentable manner, according to Dame Maggie, he "still looks like a man from the Prudential"  Such a witty reference to "the men from the Pru" - an army of door-to-door salesmen, collecting their penny-a-week, from the customers of the Prudential Insurance Society.

Just lover her and all things of the period of Downton Abby!  Lived in England for three years and love the stories and Brit heritage is Scotish so close neighbors.

Wow, everyone here must be very young.  Back when everyone understood and used manners these sayings were common.  In fact, often much more clever and witty than these.
Oh well, enjoy.  Pick up a book about Dorothy Parker if you want wit and zingers.

My favorite:  When asked what Ms Parker thought about horticulture, she replied, "You can lead a whore to culture, but you can't make her think."

Love Maggie Smith.  Has always been a superiort actress.  Not so sure about Shirley in this role but time will tell.  Wonderful writers on this show.  Keeps delivering the British (upper class) wit!!!

First:  The Brits win at television.  Period.  The stories are wonderful, the writing is brilliant - most American trash can't hold a candle.  I've never watched much TV but recently I've gotten addicted not only to Downton but also to Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Monty Python.
Sensing a common theme here?

Second:  Every aspiring actress should study Maggie Smith.  Especially her facial expressions.  Absolutely no one can say as much with a cock of the eyebrow as she can.  One of the many reasons why she's the best there is.

Third:  SUPPORT PBS!  Seriously now.  Downton is starting a bit of a revolution here in America back toward real television.  With support, PBS can continue to air wonderful treasures like this, and I'm willing to bet that more people in America will begin to watch them.
