'General Hospital' Gets Bumped

ABC soap to jump to earlier time slot to make room for Katie Couric

When Katie Couric's talker premieres Monday, Sept. 10, "General Hospital" is getting bumped to a new time period. Had "The Revolution" performed, the ABC soap would have been scrapped, so daytime fans are cheering this official announcement.

Bing: More on "General Hospital" | Katie Couric | "Good Afternoon America"

The news that “General Hospital” would survive "Katie" came with the April announcement that "The Revolution" was going off air in July, making way for the summer series "Good Afternoon America." Fans who have been charting the future of "General Hospital" were left a bit nervous. After all, why would ABC dump the afternoon spin-off of "Good Morning America" if it turned out to be a hit?

Plus: Fired TV actors | Also: Prime-time soaps: Then and now | Here comes the pride

That question still remains, but ABC's official announcement of the new "General Hospital" time slot makes it officially official. The 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Best Show winner will move to 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT, beginning Monday, Sept. 10.

Word is the action in Port Charles is all leading up to a massive storyline for next year, which marks the show's 50th year on air. The "General Hospital" golden anniversary is April 1, 2013.

"General Hospital" airs weekdays at 2 p.m. ET and 1 p.m. PT, beginning Monday, Sept. 10, on ABC.

I'm still upset they replaced The Bonnie Hunt Show with Nate Berkus. I can't stand him! That's when daytime programmimg started changing a lot. Then they cancelled All my Children then One Life To Live. I find The Chew absolutely repulsive! Dr Oz's daughter is pretty, but the rest of them don't belong in front of a camera and I can't belive we lost All My Children for this crap! I'm happy General Hospital is still on. We have HGTV and the cooking channel, don't need cheap copies on ABC. Bonnie Hunt, I thought you had the best show in daytime and I still miss it! You and your wonderful staff and crew were screwed! You are missed.

Oh Good Lord, who in the world is more annoying than Katie "Braindead" Couric?  No one will watch that stupid show, it will be gone before you can say "Susan Lucci."  Good going ABC, you are full of boneheads!

I will watch #GH no matter what timeslot it is moved to.  As for GAA(g) or Katie, these shows will suffer the same fate as the Revolution...bye bye - will not watch at all.  ABC made a huge mistake by cancelling #AMC & #OLTL; their daytime ratings and prime time ratings are suffering because daytime viewers have abandoned this network in boycot.

WOW!! I used to watch GH with my grandfather at 3pm back in the 80's.  Can't believe they would change it now just for Katie Couric.
