'Today' co-host said to be 'miserable' over Ann Curry fan tirades

According to TMZ, "Today" show co-host Matt Lauer is "freaked out" and "miserable" over tirades screamed at him by New Yorkers on a daily basis.

Lauer went from good guy to bad overnight in June, after TMZ reported he had maneuvered to oust Ann Curry as his co-host as part of his last contract negotiation. (NBC execs have publicly denied any connection between Lauer and what they term Curry's "reassignment" to reporter for "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" and other NBC news programs. Curry was replaced by Savannah Guthrie on the "Today" show.)

The TMZ report quotes unnamed NBC sources saying the public harassment is "driving (Lauer) crazy, he's so unhappy." The report adds:  “Matt is telling people at NBC there have also been lots of sarcastic comments about his $25 million salary."

My second attempt to post this... I think Matt Lauer is the one who stands out as the serious journalist and feel his interviews are very well done. The public needs to stop blaming Matt. She is back in her realm now as a serious traveling journalist. On the 'Today' show she worked so hard to get the first/last comments in, frequently interrupting everyone.

Matt is great at what he does and it is time for him to be recognized.

Lauer has never been more than a high-priced clothes-horse, a pretty boy, a human replacement for J. Fred Muggs, and NBC has never been serious about journalism. The American public deserves better than "Romper Room" for grown-ups in the morning.

I used to love the Today show and watched it daily--NO more--it all fluff, hardly anything news worthy. I have switched to CBS or FOX.  Charlie Rose does some decent interviews and FOX 
is great at telling me news I want to hear,

 I have no idea whether Matt had anything to do with Ann's being displaced.

 But, I stopped watching the Today Show and nearly anything on NBC after that happened.

I hated Lauer way before he did what he did to Ann Curry. He would always bully the ppl he interviewed and, that p*ssed me off. Now, I'm glad to see he's getting what he has deserved for yrs.!

There is a saying the old people say------ Careful what you wish for???? I like Mat but he and his co-workers should of gave Ann Curry a  chance to prove herself to see if the job was the right thing for her??

It is time for Matt L.  to retire and go far, far away from cameras.  I believe he is a bully. Many years ago I watched the Today show but Matt drove me nuts and on occasion made me angry so I switched to ABC and watched Good Morning America which is an upbeat and fun show to watch. I won't ever be a Today watcher again.

I won't watch Today, or NBC at all cuz of douchebags like this guy. If this is the type of character NBC wants on the air, no need to tune in.

I grew up watching the today show for a perspective on pertinent news...It's current format resembles reality TV. If that's where we are headed... I'll read a book.

No, I think he had a BIG say in the show getting Ann off the show. I think they couldn't controll her so they did the next big thing in replacing her with Savannah.

I'm still trying to figure out WTH happened on the weekend with Jenna!  That was a huge dis. Miss the old Today show tremendously.  Hello GMA!  Been watching lately!  Karma's a you-know-what.  Someone please tell Al to stop.

First Ann Curry, now Jenna Wolfe got dissed too.   No wonder other quaility people like Campbell Brown, Soledad O'Brien, and Amy Robach all saw the company culture take a nose dive and got the hell out of there.  Whoever is in mgmt at NBC Today Show needs to start using their head for more than just a hat-rack.

I didn't like Matt BEFORE the horrible way the Today show treated Ann........practical​ly a Broadway farewell for Meridith....when she'd been there 5 years AND didn't like it and didn't do a good job.....and Ann gets the rug pulled out from under her?  What's happening to Matt Lauer is karma........I turned the Today show out after Ann left...........miss Al, that's about it..........Sincerel​y hope Ann goes to CNN!!

Although I don't really know the reason for the squabble between Ann and Matt- Ann Curry can be overwhelming and intrusive,.  She wants to be involved in every comment and rides on everyone's coat tails.  She appears to be very controlling.  As for Mat, I believe he is excellent in what he does, he has class, and he is THE SHOW..

I like Ann, don't like Matt, no longer watch the show once Ann left. Matt can whine all he wants,  I'll be happy to give him some cheese to go with it.

I stopped watching the Today Show shortly are Katie Couric left. Ann should have been her replacement in my opinion. I came back after Ann was named but now I'm a lost viewer forever. I'm so disappointed in Matt. The show has lost its Today Show family feel.

Lauer is the bad guy here. Deborah Norville is the one who got the raw deal years ago. She was then replaced by the staunch leftist Couric.

Matt Lauer needs to go join Bryant Gumbel and co-host the morning show on Pathetic Loser Island.  Im glad its coming back at him...watch GMA!!!
