'Today' co-host said to be 'miserable' over Ann Curry fan tirades

According to TMZ, "Today" show co-host Matt Lauer is "freaked out" and "miserable" over tirades screamed at him by New Yorkers on a daily basis.

Lauer went from good guy to bad overnight in June, after TMZ reported he had maneuvered to oust Ann Curry as his co-host as part of his last contract negotiation. (NBC execs have publicly denied any connection between Lauer and what they term Curry's "reassignment" to reporter for "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" and other NBC news programs. Curry was replaced by Savannah Guthrie on the "Today" show.)

The TMZ report quotes unnamed NBC sources saying the public harassment is "driving (Lauer) crazy, he's so unhappy." The report adds:  “Matt is telling people at NBC there have also been lots of sarcastic comments about his $25 million salary."

He is a bad guy.  Look what he did to Anne Hathaway.  He is rude and obnoxious.  I would not watch any show he is on.

I was just saying this morning that I can not stand to watch Savannah--she is soooo plastic, almost like a Stepford wife. Where did they get her? I believe in adding young blood, but not at the expense of someone else's career. Matt has gotten "big headed" over the years and he needs to be reminded that at one time he was a NOBODY and may become one of many in the unemployment line at any time. I am not sorry for him--but---I do pity him and those like him. Some people think MONEY will make them happy and secure---it sure doesn't stop others from disliking you, does it?

I can't believe he makes 25 million a year here i make 22,000.00 a year, maybe he should try to live on that, i would love to buy a house and can't afford it and i'm only looking at 80,000.00 home compared to what he must live in. and yes the way they brought savannah to the morning news and all of a sudden she's co-anchor, i don't even watch the show anymore, matt you all should be ashamed of the way ann was let go, it would have been nice had she just gone to another tv station. natallie she is no better, she acted like ann's friend some friends you all were, you should have helped her keep her job, i think a lot of people probably quit watching the today show i sure hope ratings go down

I quit the second Ann Curry was off camera. It was the shittiest let go of NBC television ever. She got no chance to really say good bye and there was no going away party of any kind, she was basically **** on! Matt has been a titty baby and is still acting like it. Ann Curry had more class, respect and love for the viewers than anyone on that show and Matt cares about his $$$$. Word of advice Matt, quit acting like a spoiled two year old throwing a tantrum on the floor...grow up!!!

 

P.S. I saw right through that fake pathetic excuse of a goodbye hug you gave Ann as she was leaving...that calls for the word SNAKE in my eyes!

I agree that they screwed up giving Ann the boot.  I've been watching NBC since Katie was co-host.  Matt is ok but he is responsible for Ann leaving then he deserves to be "miserable".  I rarely watch them now....it's just not the same.  Al is great though.   Matt is full of himself but that's not why I don't tune in.  BRING BACK ANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!​!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!​!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!​!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!​!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!​!!!!

i stopped watching the entire network the day she said goodbye. that ugly azz, smug, "glib" BALD loser is a true representation of the 1940's male-dominated, bubba-network whose execs went behind ann's back and screwed the pooch. cowards, losers...your current Today ratings speak for you all.

I think Matt has a horrible presence and a pathetic ego.  I can't stand his interviewing abilities or lack thereof .... He scorns and scoffs at people he thinks are beneath him.

I turn the tv off when he is on. 

His salary is ridiculous and I am stunned by it - no talent!

Perhaps he needs to reevaluate the situation.  I hope he leaves the show.

AC had more class in her small finger.

I don't think anyone out there would turn down $25 million if it was offered so what are you complaining about? Why do people even care about this? Are their own lives really that boring?

So ridiculous, we the general public, do not know if Matt Lauer had anything to do with Ann Curry's dismissal or not. Just speculation. He has gotten a bad, &  probably unfair rap for her leaving.

Never liked him, couldnt see what they saw in him. Seemed disingenuous. Visually too much negative baggage. 25 million? Sitting on a sofa talking is nothing compared to hitting a 90mph fastball. What the heck, the whole media is rotten to the core anyway.

Matt is getting a taste of public opinion. Sure it must hurt his feelings, but WHO CARES. Suck it up and shut up, Matt!!!! Really??? The public perception is Matt had a big hand in getting Ann Curry fired. The public is usually right about their instincts. Matt has about the most coveted job in the media world. Most likely never, ever has to travel by commercial airlines. Corporate jets work just fine thank you. Gets to eat on air for free from famous and not so famous chefs. The list goes on and on. If you don't like the comments and criticism, you can always step down, Matt.....

Totally unfair to Matt. Producers have said in the past he has NO say in who is hired or fired on the Today Show. Besides, (just like cry-baby Conan O'Brien) Ann received a huuuuuuuuuuuge pay-off (Conan received $34 million for HIMSELF and millions more for his staff--AND his 11:35 pm show was LOSING money for NBC!!!!). And..Ann is still working for NBC making a very nice salary travelling the world.  One thing that bothered me (and many others) about Ann's way of interviewing--she was always whispering. Why??? Didn't need that at all. Drove me CA-RAY-ZEE!!! I did like Ann..but when your time to go is determined and you receive millions of dollars in severance pay--AND you are still hired by the same company to travel about the world--STOP COMPLAINING!!  I would gladly trade places with her!!!

I felt NBC made a bad decision of taking a skilled report and moving her to anchor.  Ann and Al are the news worthy part of the show, unfortunately we the public crave pretty faces like Matt, Katie and others to entertain us and lighten the mood of so we can handle the hard news Ann and Al deliver in their own unique ways.  Matt was created by NBC and they must both live with it.  Ann you are lucky that you don't have to co-anchor your much more valuable as a reporter who can report and I think that is why you have a strong following.

Haven't watched Today since Matt got Anne fired as co-host.  Savannah really sucks...blows!!  Matt is an **** and does not deserve 2 cents let alone $25 million.

Really? Who cares. People need to live their own lives and stop getting so involved in everyone else's. If you don't like Matt, don't watch the show but stop acting like children yelling bad things at people. To everyone that has nothing better than that to do, GET A LIFE AND GET OUT THERE AND USE YOUR ENERGY FOR SOMETHING USEFUL LIKE HELPING THE HOMELESS OR ASSISTING VICTIMS OF CRIME?

Today show is 5 minutes of headlines followed by 55 minutes of human interest stories(interveiw the family of dead <fill in the blank>), Fluff pieces for the brainless ( how to make a holiday omlette or the latest toy craz)(, Celebrity worship (how are the kardashians, royal Family, or some TV show star dealing with thier latest contrived drama), but worst of all POLITICAL SLANT related to all the former (it's Bush's fault). Don't forget the endless promotion of NBC shows somehow classified as News??? Matt was put on the show because women supposedly loved him. If he is the ideal man for the modern world God help us all.
