'Today' co-host said to be 'miserable' over Ann Curry fan tirades

According to TMZ, "Today" show co-host Matt Lauer is "freaked out" and "miserable" over tirades screamed at him by New Yorkers on a daily basis.

Lauer went from good guy to bad overnight in June, after TMZ reported he had maneuvered to oust Ann Curry as his co-host as part of his last contract negotiation. (NBC execs have publicly denied any connection between Lauer and what they term Curry's "reassignment" to reporter for "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" and other NBC news programs. Curry was replaced by Savannah Guthrie on the "Today" show.)

The TMZ report quotes unnamed NBC sources saying the public harassment is "driving (Lauer) crazy, he's so unhappy." The report adds:  “Matt is telling people at NBC there have also been lots of sarcastic comments about his $25 million salary."

Matt, you seriously think you are worth 25 Million a year? You are a male version of a prima dona and I wouldn't walk across the street to see you, let alone watch you on tv. Put up half of your liberal income towards those in need, and I will gain "some" respect for you.Think you could manage on only $12.5 million a year? This is obsenity at its best.

SHAKE IT OFF MATT! These haters are moveing to another channel(SO THEY SAY,LOL)BUT as it would be they sure know an awful lot for dippy doos that "NEVER" watch??LOL!!ROCK ON MATT! Ignore the haters! Everyone else does!

For $25 million a year, so what, who cares if Matt is unhappy.  Rich people make me tired sometimes.   I get unhappy because the working poor cannot afford new tires for their cars, the dentist, FOOD!!!

Stopped watching the show when all this happened...I do think Matt gave an ultimatum to NBC to get rid of Ann, sorta like the Jane Pauley thing way back when...people who are "struck on themselves" will stab anyone in the back to get what they want.

Don't like Matt, switched to GMA long ago.  Love GMA and group they have on that show.

Ann was a nice lady and I think she took the hit.....well they should give Matt the hook too.

Old and tired show needs to change format and folks.  Get a new weather man too.

i watch gma in the mornings. it's light fare , i get some news and i like the hosts. just like someone else said on here...they all get along.i never cared for george in the past but he actually does pretty well on gma and adds to the show in a sometimes serious way and sometimes lightly. matt sounds like he has some sand in his gina and is getitng karma for being a 25 million dollar backstabber.i've worked with strokes of his ilk before in the past.f- lauer.time to sell your benzos and mansions now before you get s-canned matt.

I completely believe he used his influence to remove Ann Curry........and I have always thought that HE is the cause of a loss in RATINGS.........I think people have started to watch George Stephonopolis, instead if HIM!!!!!!!

I no longer watch the Today Show.  Since you continue to employ Mr. ego and that Savana chick, we will not watch the Today Show until you bring Ann Curry back.

 Ann always had the same sorrowful (fake) look on her face whenever their was a sad story being reported or whenever she was interviewing someone that was upset or had a sad story to tell.  I never understood why they gave her the cohosting job.  Natalie Morales would have been a must better fit.

I started watching GMA right after and never looked back. I didn't like the whole way the execs treated Ann but also, Matt didn't seem to bring anything to Ann's defense either.  It was totally botched. The show is stale, I tried maybe twice to watch but Savannah is like just a girl with a big toothy grin and maybe a few credible quips but so what?  She doesn't have the warmth and compassion Ann did.  If anything, Natalie woulda been my thought as the next logical co-host.  They [execs] make no sense, no loyalty, no sense of what those who watched the show all their lives [I did for over 50 years] and I don't miss it one iota.  I *mourn* the Today show and what it was, what it stood for, and for always being that 'friend' in the morning you could trust.  But that trust was certainly busted in July.  Poor Matt, karma is a bitch, isn't it?

I don't believe NBC or Lauer concerning his involvement with Currie's firing. We also have not watched the week-day editions of the Today show since her last day; GMA has better programing.
