Report: Ann Curry banned from live TV

NBC wants former 'Today' co-host to do taped interviews only

'Ann Curry' '/' NBC

NBC's already strained relationship with Ann Curry just got worse.

The network has issued a new edict that the former "Today" co-host can no longer do live interviews on air, the New York Post reports. According to a source, Curry has been gunning to do live interviews, but NBC will only let her do pre-recorded chats, "presumably so they can edit them."

While the Peacock network dismissed the story as gossip, Curry has been taping interviews for various NBC news programs. Her relationship with the network and former co-host Matt Lauer went south when NBC fired her from "Today" last June.

Most recently, the Post reported that CNN's new chief, Jeff Zucker, wants to hire Curry. Zucker was her boss when he ran NBC Universal. Meanwhile, Curry, 56, reportedly wants NBC to release her from her multi-year contract.

"Today" airs weekdays at 7 a.m. ET/PT on NBC.

I was never a HUGE Ann fan, but now The Today Show is GawdAwful!!! Balding Matt, the two airheads Savannah and Natalie (I loved the day that Savannah said she "would have to lose about 20 pounds to look as thin as Natalie") And Savannah's hair!!!!! Someone needs to help that poor girl with volume!! She looks likes Carol Brady!!!  There is about 7 minutes of serious news and then 4 hours of Kardashians. What a mess! And please find a new segue-if I hear "on a serious note" one more time I am going to poke my eardrums out!!!! How about some new one liners for Al while you are at it?? I could go on and on but you get the picture. The only saving grace is the weekend edition minus Jenna Clay. If you haven't yet, give GMA a chance! Normal body images, great hair, excellent journalism, nice balance between news and entertainment-give it a look!

It still baffles me that they let Ann go but kept Kathy Lee and Hoda!  When those two interview someone they can't shut up long enough for the person to respond.  Ann has class so evidently she doesn't fit in with NBC.  And another thing but ever since Savanna showed up on an island with Matt while he was doing his "Where in the world..." bit I have allways had my suspicions about those two.

NBC release Ann Curry from her contract.  What you are doing is criminal.  I do not know why the Network has set out to ruin this woman's career.  You are clearly not interested in having her as part of your "Team" so let her go and find someone else to "torture" if that is what you are all into.  PS - Can't tell you the last time I watched NBC programming.  Love Ya Hoda - hope that you are not the next target.

The reason they don't want Ann to do anything live is that she is terrible on live television.  She comes across as uptight and without a spontaneous bone in her body.  And that is also why she was not good on Today.  She is probably a nice person and in some settings could be a capable reporter  But live TV is not her strength.

Quit watching Today when Ann was let go. I had already lost interest ,much too much drama and less about serious news issues. I am now watching CBS and it is so smart. I think they need to let Ann out of her contract, she is smart and talented and will land on her feet. They are delaying the inevitable, she will not stay with NBC.

Ann Curry handled the news desk with professionalism and easily moved into soft reporting. She is smart, funny, interesting, sensitive, and a "mover and shaker". NBC should be proud of her ability to motivate a country as she did after the Newtown, CT, shootings.

Shame on NBC TODAY for the big sendoff they gave Meredith (who keeps coming back) and the rude handling of Ann Curry who brings serious issues to light. Really!

Ann is a competent journalist and was treated very badly by NBC! Matt Cannot hold a candle to her regarding "serious" journalism......I hope that Ann is able to get out of her contract and leave NBC to do more then "fluff" jornalism which is mostly what I have seen of late!

NBC should be ashamed!!!! Ann Curry is a wonderful co-host and while the "new girls" are okay, they LACK in SO many areas!!!  Only reason I still watch is because Matt and Al are still on the show....Willy Wonka....BAD!!!!!  If you think you are going to replace Matt with him....goodbye to you NBC!!  Oh and the "black woman" that was on today....HORRIBLE!!!!! What a crock of crap....she spews out!  Ann is a gracious, kind, funny, loving and down to earth person and NBC should be begging her to come back!!!!  I me seriously WHAT did Ann do to deserve this kind of treatment by NBC....who has it in for her....it's SO freaking obvious that a high up muckie muck has taken to making her life horrible....well, you reap what you sow....NBC.....you reap what you sow......So get your freaking act together and stop holding grudges and let Ann do live shows and be back on the Today show!

the TODAY show has gone downhill since Katie left.  I used to watch it everyday.  Now it seems like a looong, dragged out, boring, morning show.  Matt Lauer doesnt seem the least bit interested in any person or topic he discusses or interviews.  He isnt there half the time anyways.   And the hour with Hoda and Kathy Lee.............ugh!

Hopefully Ann Curry will be able to get out from under NBC...they treated her badly and disrespectfully.  Matt is no gem in my book

Ann is the worst TV personality out there. CNN ratings will definitely suffer as a result of putting her on the air. After her public meltdown about her human resource issues at NBC, she has become a cancer to the team at NBC.  The women currently working alongside Matt every morning are more talented, can interview and have more loyalty to the producers. I like the line-up they have now and the weekend show is the best; Lester and Erica Hill (ex CNN) are excellent together.

All said, I really would have liked to see Ann support the "Today" team and not go public with her inability to be a better team player, but in the end it was all about her. She should take her severance check and quit the industry; what an embarrassment to journalism. Journalism schools across the country should be teaching their students not to be like Ann Curry.

I wish NBC would just let Anne out of her contract. Their already limiting her role as it is and they know she's not happy. JUST LET THE WOMAN FREE ALREADY, JEEZ! I love Anne and I hope she goes to a network who will appreciate the work she does.

Haven't watched the Today show since Ms. Curry left. Don't like Matt Lower.

When I heard that Ann Curry was out and that Savannah Guthrie  was in, the first thought that popped into my head was that the execs at NBC just wanted a "pretty" face in the morning.  I hope that this is not the case, because Savannah does not have a pretty face.  I liked the way Ann would deliver the news, Savannah to me seems like she is riding the "pretty" face factor.

Sounds to me like she signed a non-compete agreement, if that was the case, she is bound to it for the designated time frame. I'm sure she was compensated for signing the agreement, she was also given a sizable separation settlement, so she should take a nice long relaxing vacation, spend lots of her settlement money and wait out the timeframe., and stop whining to anyone that will listen.
