Dane Gets the Hook

NBC pulls comedian and actor Dane Cook's new sitcom before it airs

There are few things more grating in entertainment than watching Dane Cook perform or listening to generic radio "shock jocks." Thus, NBC's "Next Caller" -- starring Cook as a shock jock who's forced into co-hosting duties with a feminist counterpart -- sounded like the most dubious premise for a Peacock Network sitcom since "Outsourced." Alas, the looming midseason replacement will never see the light of prime time.

Bing: "Next Caller" | Dane Cook

Deadline reports that NBC has officially hung up their efforts on "Next Caller," cancelling the series after it had filmed a handful of episodes but before a single one aired. The story elaborates, "Creatively, the series was not going in the direction they had hoped for." Which, to translate, presumably means funny.
 
 
Don't worry about Dane, though. He'll no doubt either be appearing soon at an arena near you or guest on "Louie" in an effort to make you see him from a different perspective even if you're perfectly entitled not to enjoy his comedy.

Why do you people compare anyone to dane cook?? Ok, so hes not the most HILARIOUS or smart and hes hyper.. and who cares if he points out the obvious!!! Lighten up.

Your bringing down someone who is just out to make people laugh and have a good time... ANY comedian that sells out stadiums is a success. It doesn’t matter if YOU PERSONALLY think he's funny or not.

 

This world is going to S*** and at least he’s trying to make us laugh. Same with kat willams, brian reegan, Seinfeld, blue collar guys and Lewis black etc… its doesn’t matter if you think they are funny they don’t SUCK just because its not your type of humor.

 

The negativity in this world is really getting out of hand. Why would you HATE anyone just trying to have fun, make a living and live there life?

Have any of you "haters" ever even seen him in person, or watched any of the movies that he has played in?  The funniest movie ever made was "My Best Friends Girl" and mainly due to his character, Tank!  I challenge any and all that have not seen it, to watch it....if you don't find it halarious then you need to self analyze.  So what, if during his stand up he walks around and waves his arms while speaking;  would you rather that he sit on his **** and pick his nose?  The great thing about him, is that he is himself....he doesn't try to act like anything other than what he is.  He could care less what others think.  He speaks his mind, others find it humorous and along the line of their own thinking.  The haters: if you don't find his humor funny, then you are pretty dull!  Perhaps you are jeaous that your woman thinks he is funnier than yourself, and that he is ruggedly goodlooking?   As earlier stated, who's to say that this sitcom would have sucked?  Maybe the guy that is in charge was a control freak, was having a bad day, or is just an idiot?  As prevoiusly stated, there is a reason why he sells out entire arenas while touring.   Dane Cook will do many more great things; join me as I sit back and watch. I dare you!

Hmmm. I'm not sure, but there seems to be some sort of prejudice against Dane Cook in this article. What happened to objectivity in writing? I don't really care about some jackhole's biased perspective on the subject, but rather the facts written in third person. If I want a first person POV, I'll read the comments like the one posted by the jackhole who stares at me in the mirror.

The times I have seen Dane Cook's comedy... it was just him walking around, waving his arms while pointing out the obvious. I can see why stupid people think that he is so high-larious.

 

But frantic arm waving and radio really don't go together, so who thought this was a good idea????

What were they thinking greenlighting this in the first palce? Are they stuck in 2006...the last time anyone thought Dane Cook was funny?

I don't understand what people have against Dane Cook. He has some hilarious bits that make me laugh out loud. There is a reason why he was able to sell out entire arenas. I love to read and hear all the haters out there complaining about Dane Cook. meanwhile he is a huge success. Oh and by the way they are a lot of sitcoms that get made and then don't air. Seinfeld and Friends almost didn't get made because some "higher ups" thought it wouldn't work. I'm not saying it would have been a good show or not. But stop with all the hating. There are shows that make to air that suck too and are cancelled before the first season ends. Tell me which is worse?

Why would you cut up his profession? Its bad enough his show got dropped, poor guy.... how does it feel to be one of those mean people who makes fun of others misfortunes to be cool? Unfortunately for you your sarcasm wasn’t funny. It was a horrible article. Next time write an article on someone who deserves to be put down or maybe write the article with a little less (as Dane Cook would say) SNARKYNESS.

Its a real shame i wasted my time reading it.

Now that's funny. I think the masses finally caught on that Cook is NOT funny or clever. Only posers and suckers think he's sayin' somethin'.
