Small-screen adaptations of historical texts can result in curious bedfellows. After all, who would ever have thought Tom Hanks and Bill O'Reilly would share credits in a TV movie for the National Geographic Channel? Alas, that's exactly what set to go down when "Killing Lincoln" airs in 2013.

Bing: "Killing Lincoln" | Tom Hanks | Bill O'Reilly

According to Deadline, multiple Oscar winner and frequent miniseries producer Hanks will host and narrate the Nat Geo drama, which is based on O'Reilly and Martin Dugard's controversial best-seller about the assassination of our 16th president. Hanks joins an already impressive roster including "The Killing" star Billy Campbell as Lincoln. It's also one of the final projects the late Tony Scott was overseeing as executive producer.

Nat Geo President Howard T. Ownes boasts to Deadline that, “Only Hanks can add that unique poise, intrigue and dynamism that are his trademark to a film about one of the most significant, life-changing events in America’s young history.”

And to think, once upon a time, he was merely Uncle Ned.

tom hanks is corrupted by greed, ego and politics. if you think politicians are bad, try all these idiotic left wing actors who support these scumbag politicians. i started to boycott his movies when he badmouthed ww2 and the veterans. he was shameful. i will never watch anything from him again or sean penn, george clooney, brad pitt, tom cruise, etc. plus he has never done an action movie in his life. which makes him a loser.

What exactly is controversial about Killing Lincoln? Could it be it you only use the word because Bill O'Reilly wrote it? Bill O'Reilly is not as conservative as one may believe, and Tom Hanks is not as liberal as one may believe. Alas, the only thing controversial here is the tone of the author trying to drum up drama in any way he can.

Killing Lincoln was a wonderful book, history at it best.. Tom Hanks should fell honored to play a part.. I hope some of the money he earns from it goes to wounded warriors, like Bill O'Reillys does... See, we are Americans and can work together, not so much when we are separate. I love our country..

"Alas," really?  Why "alas"?  Oh, such a terrible and tragic turn of events, that Tom Hanks should want to narrate the small-screen adaptation of a best-selling book...

Methinks your politics are showing.  People CAN disagree politically and still collaborate on a project.  If we based all of our decisions in daily life (what to watch, where to eat, what to read) on the politics of the person providing them to us, what a boring life it would be -- and needlessly conflicted, as well.  Oh hey, that actor you like has a new movie out, want to go see it?  Sorry, can't, I found out he's on the other side politically.  But it's a film about colonizing Mars, what do US politics have to do with it?  Don't tempt me with your logic, sir, I must stick to my values and principles of only ever associating with, watching, or listening to people who believe exactly as I do...

Give me a break!!

"Alas"?  Why?  Because a liberal and conservative are working together?  And why is the book controversial?  I think most of the criticisms leveled against the book had more to do with the author than the content (as you apparently are displaying), and any criticisms have been debunked.
