One Million Moms registers disapproval over JC Penney Xmas commercial

This week's lesson in unexpected cultural protests: If nationally franchised department stores cast anyone but stridently heterosexual celebrity spokespeople, they'll apparently be in serious trouble with some conservative groups. Or at least that's what JC Penney's putting up with yet again, on account of its ongoing relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.

Shortly after Thanksgiving, the company debuted its latest holiday commercial starring the comedian and talk-show host. And if the harmless 30-second spot could be accused of any transgression, it'd be corny punchlines at the expense of helpless elves. But according to a recent website update (since seemingly removed) from One Million Moms (a group affiliated with conservative media watchdog American Family Association), "JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again," before decreeing, "Christians must now vote with their wallets."
There may be a a couple slight problems with this call to arms. Enacting the democratic privilege of petitioning corporations whose actions don't square with your values doesn't come down to a "vote." It's not a popular election. Moreover, if millions of stocking-stuffing matriarchs just say no to JCP, where will they purchase Cosby sweaters for the men in their lives? Worth considering, One Million Moms. Worth considering.
As for Ellen, she's unlikely to respond, given her eloquently eviscerating comments in the wake of OMM's prior upheaval back in February. But in case you, or they, missed it, this about sums the controversy up.

Observation: why is it that when liberals have a problem with something a conservative says or does it becomes national news??? It works both ways I think things that offend liberals are not worth talking about either . Personally I have no problem with this stuff that is why there is a mute button and off button on the TV folks.

Children don't know she's gay unless you tell them she is. As for older children, if you are so concerned about exposure to homosexuality, it's your job to make sure they are not exposed, not condemn others for your choice. How they are exposed to the issues comes from friends, school and family, if you can't control that, then you are just out of luck. The bigger deal you make of it, the more your children will want to know about it.

Perhaps those Mom's should boycott J.C. Penny and move their shopping power to WalMart? I haven't shopped at J.C. Penny since my college days when I wasn't making very much money. 30 years have passed since my last visit to J.C. Penny, but now I think I will start shopping there again. I am sure they have many items I would be interested in purchasing. Quality and price matters to me, not something these so called "Mom's" say is important.

What is wrong with all you people? Ellen is the most upbeat person on TV and puts a smile on my face everytime I watch her show. With all the negative, depressing shows on TV, she is refreshing! If all the moms are concerned about their children, they should be boycotting the self serving, idiotic reality shows that are teaching our kids to have no morals or values. Hooray for Ellen!! We need more funny, loving, caring people like her, regardless of her sexual orientation.

I am so very glad I worship a loving God -- not the one that hates this group or that group or another group. My God loves everyone because He created all people/things! I would absolutely hate to think that my God did not love someone because of who s/he chooses to love. The "Million Moms" must be so bitter and fearful -- I am not! I know I have a place with my God after I leave this Earth -- because, like a loving parent -- there is nothing, absolutely nothing that I could do to make my Heavenly Father stop loving me -- He may not like what I do but he will still love me no matter what. And, He will forgive me for whatever I do because, like I do with my children, He forgives me.

I am so tired of these goody goody organizations and people saying "I'm a Christian" big deal. Just because they're moms or a Christian doesn't make them better than anybody else. What would they do if one of them had a homosexual child? Lets be opened minded. I have gay friends and love them just the same and after many conversations with them, I've come to understand where they are coming from. They didn't wake up one day and say "I'm going to be gay." They felt it as young children. I feel sorry for evil minded people. Must be Republicans !!!
I volunteered with abused children for 3 years, and they were abused by a man and a woman !!!
