Latest Ellen DeGeneres ad causes another stir

One Million Moms registers disapproval over JC Penney Xmas commercial

This week's lesson in unexpected cultural protests: If nationally franchised department stores cast anyone but stridently heterosexual celebrity spokespeople, they'll apparently be in serious trouble with some conservative groups. Or at least that's what JC Penney's putting up with yet again, on account of its ongoing relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.
 

 

Shortly after Thanksgiving, the company debuted its latest holiday commercial starring the comedian and talk-show host. And if the harmless 30-second spot could be accused of any transgression, it'd be corny punchlines at the expense of helpless elves. But according to a recent website update (since seemingly removed) from One Million Moms (a group affiliated with conservative media watchdog American Family Association), "JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again," before decreeing, "Christians must now vote with their wallets."


 

There may be a a couple slight problems with this call to arms. Enacting the democratic privilege of petitioning corporations whose actions don't square with your values doesn't come down to a "vote." It's not a popular election. Moreover, if millions of stocking-stuffing matriarchs just say no to JCP, where will they purchase Cosby sweaters for the men in their lives? Worth considering, One Million Moms. Worth considering.

As for Ellen, she's unlikely to respond, given her eloquently eviscerating comments in the wake of OMM's prior upheaval back in February. But in case you, or they, missed it, this about sums the controversy up.

I dont' get it...why is anyone offended with this ad? and how could mom's be offended by ellen? do you know that she does a show dedicated to nothing but pregnant women. her entire audience is pregnant and she gives them so many gifts it would be overwhelming to any pregnant mom. people who are offended by the fact that she is gay...you are just ignorant. quit be a hater. it will get you no where in life. ellen is a wonderful person. she does so much for so many. her orientation does not define who she is. there should be more people like her in this world.

You have to be kidding me, OMM.  You're One in a million alright....one big idiot after another!!  Get a life!  I love Ellen...(no, I'm not gay) and I love her show. I never miss it....   Why don't you open your hearts and minds to other things than finding reasons to hate.  You're discriminating against her because of her choice in a partner.  I salute JCP for seeing the beauty in that woman.

If these so called OMM's are worried about celebrity endorsements because they don't like her life-style, what about Donald Trump?  He's been married umpteen times, is brash and outspoken, and has had many extra-marital affairs.  How about boycotting Macy's then?  He certainly is no Christian.  Also, there are many celebrities that have done drugs, excessive drinking, do they boycott all of them?  Get real people.  Why don't you put your time and thought into unemployment, feeding the hungry, or child abuse.  There are a lot of Christian things more deserving to worry about.  Well I'm off to JCP to Christmas shop.

maybe these stupid women ought to learn how to parent and stop trying to make everyone alike. teach your children that different is ok instead of saying that different is bad. I think someone named Hitler had the same thoughts as you people do. keep your thoughts to yourself and do not bother the normal people of the world. we have hearts and feelings and you have ice in your veins. I would rather have a hundred gay friends than one of you. I am a straight grandmother from Mn and I believe in people having the right to be who they are without being persecuted for it. My people were persecuted for their religion so I know what I am talking about.

The only problem that I have with this article is that Christ was left out of Christmas!  Now, that's just me.  Life in today's world is way to difficult to get your panties in a ruffle over this and that.  Ellen is just exactly what JCP needs to weather this storm.  LQQK at the publicity it is creating.

So let me see Ellen is gay not a killer but gay . So she really hasn't  hurt anybody has she just some women that sit on there  asses looking for reasons to put people down. I love Ellen and JCP and have no plans of not watching her or no I will not stop shopping at penneys. I think those moms should look at themselves thy talk about bullys and along come some bitches being just that bullys whining if thy can't have there ways  Juat remember the saying don't throw stones when you live in a glass house. One never knows whats  going on in there own family maybe they have a gay son or daughter maybe  those mom would like there kids to be treated the way thy treat people or maybe those moms need to be put down because people dont like them and there hateful mouths.

Ellen you are still a number one person in my  life and JCP I will alway shop at your stores.So please  let Ellen keep putting smiles on peoples faces and mine  Love Ya  girl.

If my mom were one of the 1 million (although I suspect it's more likely 3 old men), I'd be looking aroaund for another mother!

Dear Million Moms: (errr 40k moms):
You need to grow up.  I absolutely guarantee some of your kids will be gay.  Why don't you direct your hate and ignorance at them?  Then the rest of the USA will love and befriend them and try to help them through the pain of a mother hating them for something they have no control over and is completely natural humanity.

It's a commercial and although I know Ellen is gay, in no way did seeing her in this commercial make me think about gay people. It's a JC. Penney Christmas commercial. I wish these groups who seem to have all the time in the world to criticize the life styles of others would put their energy into solving some of the more pressing issues facing the citizens of the United States

Why comment if you do not like someone. Be a bigger person. Ellen is awesome. I bet if you met her in person or if she gave you money or a new car you would act like she is your saint. Why are mom's mad? Is it the comment about people taking up two spaces at the mall. People take up two spaces everywhere. Let's face it, some people are big. Ellen is doing the commercial i doubt she wrote it. Get a life and don't read something that is going to upset you.

OMM find something better to do than complain and bitch about a TV Commercial!! Really!!!! Personally I thought it was funny.  I love Ellen and everything she stands for.  Guess I am shopping at JC Penny more!

Wow, given the fact that there are one million moms out there joining together in their anti-Christian message, whatever will they do when they find a family member is gay?  The odds and nature suggest that many of these moms will be confronted with such a situation.  What will they do then?  Disown them?   Watch out, moms.  It hurts when you fall off your high horse!
