Latest Ellen DeGeneres ad causes another stir

One Million Moms registers disapproval over JC Penney Xmas commercial

This week's lesson in unexpected cultural protests: If nationally franchised department stores cast anyone but stridently heterosexual celebrity spokespeople, they'll apparently be in serious trouble with some conservative groups. Or at least that's what JC Penney's putting up with yet again, on account of its ongoing relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.

Shortly after Thanksgiving, the company debuted its latest holiday commercial starring the comedian and talk-show host. And if the harmless 30-second spot could be accused of any transgression, it'd be corny punchlines at the expense of helpless elves. But according to a recent website update (since seemingly removed) from One Million Moms (a group affiliated with conservative media watchdog American Family Association), "JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again," before decreeing, "Christians must now vote with their wallets."

There may be a a couple slight problems with this call to arms. Enacting the democratic privilege of petitioning corporations whose actions don't square with your values doesn't come down to a "vote." It's not a popular election. Moreover, if millions of stocking-stuffing matriarchs just say no to JCP, where will they purchase Cosby sweaters for the men in their lives? Worth considering, One Million Moms. Worth considering.

As for Ellen, she's unlikely to respond, given her eloquently eviscerating comments in the wake of OMM's prior upheaval back in February. But in case you, or they, missed it, this about sums the controversy up.

I agree with C Gailey44, well said!  I am also a conservative Christian, and heterosexual, however, to be Christ-like is to love as God loves us.   I am sick and tired of these self righteous people who call themselves Christians and mock and judge other people.  One Million Mom's.......you are a disgrace to those of us who are true believers!!

Wonder how many may have signed up for her Christmas give away ;)  JCP keep up the good work...Economy not Ellen are to blame for decline in sales!!!

Another group of fools that needs to shut up and go way. Must be nice to have such an easy life and all your problems fixed that they have the time to worry about a business and who they use as a spokesperson in their advertising. Give me a break. If only they could focus on something that mattered?

These people are a joke and haven't a clue of what Jesus was trying to teach or what they are even saying. And I'm by no means a bible thumper, if you will, but still can see how blind these people are. Really I pity them.

BTW penny's sales problem has nothing to do with using Ellen in their marketing so don't try to kid yourself and think it is or that these fools have anything to do with it.

I think its time

I do not shop much, but Penny's will be my next stop for gift buying..what a bunch of unkind "Christians" have been produced.I thought "God is Love"  not "God is Hate".

Get over it Moms. Find something relevant to pick on, like pedophiles who get released form jail too soon. Or Teenagers driving intoxicated. Those are important things to fight for and protest. Im mother myself..and nowhere do I find this commercial or Ellen offensive. And just a question Moms... How  would you treat  your child if he or she should be homosexual? Would they be comfortable enough to tell you without you judging them..or will they feel like an outcast in their own family because your belief is to discriminate against homosexuality? To me that is something that should be addressed within yourselves before making ridiculous boycotts.

I consider myself a conservative, but this commercial did not offend me. Honestly people, you have to get off the gay bashing. The commercial was not aimed at her gayness. People who complain about the commercial because a gay person is in it make the whole conservative movement look ridiculous. If you want people to take conservatism seriously, YOU have to be open minded also.

Unlikely rangeralph4............you should actually pay attention to why JCP stock fell in the time period mentioned. Loss of customers most likely related to their regular sales suspension. Ellen as spokesperson.....not even on the map of concerns by reasonable people.

I imagine any woman who is a member of OMM must be the worst mother in the world. After all, they spend so much time protesting things that don't really even matter that they don't have any time to really be a parent.

I'm a Christian, I haven't seen the commercial, and I don't find Ellen Degenerate one bit funny.

Kudos to J.C. Penny's and to Ellen they are a first rate act and GOD Bless thim! As for the so called Christians of the million mom march. There are at least 50 million moms who don't agree! Along with their  husbands, familys and fellow christians.Calling yourself christian does not make you one. You must follow christ to be one."Do unto your enemies as you would have them do un to you. for if you love only your family, neighbors...even the wicked do that? Love God with all you heart, all your mind, all your soul .Worship Him only. this is the foundation of the law and prophets.

As usual the holy rollers are out in droves and up in arms! Let me just clarify that religion doesn't symbolize what is righteous, in fact there's not much merit to religion as science has already proven that, but those "holy of hollies" are always getting their panties in a bunch!

I am offended by this TV spot. As a 3ft tall, pointy eared, green stocking wearing toy maker I find this commercial to be blatantly anti-elfite. All us elves must stand together (yes..we are already standing!!) to fight such a damaging campaign!!!!....Give me a break....

My wife and I were not planning on shopping at JCP this holiday season but, will now,do so in support of Ellen and the company.

Some people really need to get a life or a job if they are that bored. I love Ellen and now Love JCP even more than I did before! Who cares who she shares her life with?? Get a grip people! These mom's should be ashamed of themselves and I hope their children don't listen to a word they say!

You know what, I would be the first one on the list of well known so-called homophobics if this were some attempt at  someone using their status to promote the ugly gay agenda. But this is not one of those times and this group protesting my homegirl's commercial can not be seen as any other position then bigotry. If anything  Ellen was guilty of making fun of little people.

Claiming to be Christians with Christian values is a bunch of crap coming from these "MORONS", Sounds like the same group that told Macy's to pull Trumps add with them. There cause is the sign of bully's.. Ellen is a marvelous person in many ways. Love her comercials. It doesnt matter that she is gay thats her choice. It doesnt mean she cant work or live in this world. If the fire is under these "MORONS" bottom side why dont they put it to good use. There are many that would love to shop at Pennys and cant. Why dont you give these folks a good Christmas? Insted of making a fools out of yourselfs by signing a petition which intent is to cause distention here in America. You are a bunch of shallow minded individuals to follow that trash.

I also love Ellen and her show. I took the Lord into my heart a long time ago. Personal life is just that personal. I am just sick of all the hate. Let people have their lives. They arenot hurting anyone. Stop looking for something to hate. Plus all that hate is bad for their hate. Learn to relax and let go. We all have different likes and dislikes.

I consider myself christian in that I believe Jesus is true God and true man. Now that what I believes on the record I will go on the record again and say that if anything should be offensive it the correlation between Santie Claus and his working 'elves" (at lease he employs the physically challenged)  and the birth of God. However, as a product of  Christian AMerican capitalism, I find this protest group offensive in that it attacks the one thing we as american should promote, comsumerism!

As for Ellen, God made her for us to love.
