Mel Brooks still has it
Comedy veteran celebrated on HBO special, DVD collection
Mel Brooks is a comedic legend.
So it's no wonder his film and television career, which spans nearly seven decades, is being celebrated on TV and DVD. First up is "The Incredible Mel Brooks: An Irresistible Collection of Unhinged Comedy," a DVD box set and book that includes the Emmy-nominated 2011 special, "Mel Brooks And Dick Cavett Together Again" and its outtakes.

If that's not enough Brooks for Brooks' fans, HBO is airing "Mel Brooks Strikes Back!," an interview special the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winning writer and producer did with the BBC's Alan Yentob. It airs Dec. 10 on HBO and includes clips of Brooks and Carl Reiner , film highlights and insightful and funny questions from Yentob and the audience.
Hilarious and intelligent, Brooks, 86, also proves that he is a survivor who has used his humor to overcome the loss of his wife and muse of more than 40 years, actress Anne Bancroft, as well as friends and collaborators such as Dom DeLuise, Cleavon Little and Madeline Kahn.
"Mel Brooks Strikes Back!" airs Monday, Dec. 10, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. "The Incredible Mel Brooks: An Irresistible Collection of Unhinged Comedy" (Shout! Factory, $89.93) is available for purchase in stores and online.
