Katie Couric Previews New Show on 'Wendy Williams'
Future talk show host also discusses Sarah Palin, Matt Lauer's new paycheck and more

With ABC's "Katie" set to launch in September, Couric is re-connecting with daytime audiences. Soap opera fans cheered when she stood up for "General Hospital," and her week co-hosting "GMA" is still making news. She even landed face time with NBC daytime fans on the 60th Anniversary episode of "Today," back in January.
Couric reached beyond the dueling networks Wednesday to share a few laughs with "The Wendy Williams Show" fans. After showing off her biceps and making a spin class date with Williams, Couric revealed she's looking to mix business with pleasure on "Katie."
"I was very honored to do the 'CBS Evening News,' but it was a little regimented for me. I just want to have a show where I can be serious sometimes, but also have a lot of fun and be engaging and just be who I am," Couric told Williams. "You're going to see a lot of Fun Katie!"
Also: What shows will be returning next season?
When "Katie" does get serious, Couric says, "I want to tackles some tough subjects, like how technology is impacting our relationships and maybe how it's affecting our kids when they're glued to those computers 24/7. And just a lot of different things I think people want to talk about, hear about, get some guidance about."
"Katie" guests will be "interesting people who are doing interesting things," which is sure to include celebs and notables.
Couric would even welcome Sarah Palin. "If she would like to come, I would be happy to have her," Couric said. "I think it's been portrayed that it's like a mano a mano – or womano a womano – with the two of us. I have nothing against her, at all. I did my job. I asked questions I would ask any candidate. And there you have it."
As for her former co-host Matt Lauer's reportedly $25 million paycheck? "That's some nice cabbage, as they say," Couric quipped. "Matt and are I good friends and listen. He's a great person. A lot of things get printed that aren't true. All I know is he's a very very valuable member of that team. Matt feels a lot of loyalty to the show, which I admire and respect. He feels like he's the caretaker and wants to be there for the show when the show needs him."
In the clip above, the former "Today" co-host also reflects on her "divided loyalties" during her guest hosting stint at "GMA," what it was like getting back into the morning news for a week and more.
"The Wendy Williams Show" airs weekdays in syndication and at midnight on BET.
