'Days of Our Lives' renewed through 2014

With "Days of Our Live" set to air its 1200th episode on Friday, Jan. 11, NBC has extended the soap opera for another year, keeping it on air through September 2014.

"We are thrilled to announce that 'Days of our Lives' is not going anywhere," said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. "It is NBC's longest-running drama series by far and is one of the most historic brands in television. We commend Ken Corday and the entire creative team on continuing to keep the stories and characters fresh, exciting and relevant year after year."


This news means "Days of Our Lives" will get to celebrate its 48th year anniversary in November. The show first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later.


"After so many years in the homes and hearts of our loyal fans, I'm both humbled and elated to say it's 2013 and we're still going strong," said Ken Corday, executive producer and son of show creators Betty and Ted Corday. "I am equally proud that the sense of family which my mom and dad established in our show 48 years ago is still what drives it today. As we celebrate our 12,000th episode with an amazing cast and great support from our network, we look forward to what's yet to come!"


In the 12,000th episode, Sami (Alison Sweeney) and Rafe (Galen Gering) start reconnecting, while Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) finds an ally in her quest to win Daniel (Shawn Christian) away from Jennifer (Melissa Reeves). Gabi (Camila Banus), who's carrying Will's  (Chandler Massey) baby, prepares to marry Nick (Blake Berris), but someone will throw a huge wrench into the wedding proceedings by the end of the episode. 


Stay turned for MSN TV's interview with Ali Sweeney, who celebrated 20 years on the show this week. Sweeney teases a big EJAMI/SAFE decision and also talks about the new season of "Biggest Loser."

Please keep this one on for as long as the actors/actresses want to perform.  Please leave one stable thing alone.  I know a lof people don't watch soap during the day, but you would be surprised at how many of us DVR this show.

I started watching days in 1965.  I have always loved the show and hope to heck it lasts another 12,000 episodes.  Would love to see Kristen get her dues...hopefully Brady will wise up.  Can't believe they are bring back Chloe....but should be interesting....

i remember when it started and watched for year.  then i went through a period of not watching any soaps.  i've been in to it for several years again and Days is the only soap i watch.  Tape it faithfully.  Will situation is too physical.  keep it behind the scenes.  Sami and Rafe BELONG together.  kick Kristen to the curb and make Brady wise up, he's becoming too much of a wimp.  get rid of Kate, yuck. make story line more interesting and don't drag them out sooooooooooo long.  kayla needs a partner--maybe Lexie's widower????

love the show,  let's go for 50 years

I watched the show all the time for many years. After kids started aging at very odd rates I quit. Sean D was on when I was in grade school his character was only a few years younger than I am. Brady was born 5 years before my eldest and so should only be 20 or 21. Bell being with Sean D is what made me stop watching those two are YEARS apart. When Will was suddenly closer to Bradys age than he should be ( in reality Will should be in his late elementary years or maybe Jr high) I tuned out all together. The shows time lines are so out of whack that I simply cant stand to watch even 10 minutes of it anymore. Sammi has been getting the raw end of the deal for far to long. EJ never should have been introduced as an adult as he is the same age as Phillip and she should have been left to be happy with Lucas. Stephano needs to stop coming back from the dead and the first time that Tony came back was one to many for me.  Far to many stupid writing mistakes have killed the shows enjoyability for me.

Days should have been resigned for 10 or more years!!!  12,000 episodes is a huge milestone. I have been watching since the 70's. I have the DVR set to record on my local NBC station and on soap net everyday so I am guarnteed not to miss anything! (the local station has a habit of breaking in with stupid news or when Days is on) Sami and EJ should finally get together, maybe Brady and Jennifer. Bring in some big adventure. I don't mind the gay story line at all......it is a part of life these 'days'.

Love this show.  I have been watching since 1970 and am so glad it is to continue.  This is one that I tape every day and watch as soon as I can get home.  Bring back Bo and drop some of the steamy bedroom scenes.

ive watched this show since 1970 , love the show ... just dont like some of the stuff going on right now , i think gabbi and nick should get married and leave town , daniel and jenn should be together , sammie and rafe together , ej and nicole together , as for brady .. please quit making him such a fool , dont like the deal with kristen , will and sonny are ok but ... dont like seeing bedroom scenes with them , im not against gays , just dont think everyone should have to see it . cant stand john and marlana , wish bo was back , and please for gods sake get rid of stephano for good finally , its getting ridiculous with him .

So glad to hear.  Please keep Days going.  I look forward to it every week day. Have been watching since 1983.  I am so glad to see Sami and Rafe together. Love it. Cloe need to go to EJ. and mess with his life.

I have been watching Days for 26 years with breaks every now and then...I am disappointed in Brady getting sucked in by old Kristen..time for her to go...love EJ James Scott is the best and easy on the eyes...love Sami she and EJ belong together....sick of Nick his character is lame ...time for Kate to go also unless you are going to give her a purpose on the show...I miss the Victor and Stephano action ...Marlena used to be strong and John was a good partner for her ..not any more they are lame together time to go...bring Bo back big mistake letting him go Hope seems lost and no purpose now on the show ...Jennifer has become ditzy and weak give her a reason to be on the show please but not to be with Daniel he belongs with Chloe ....

i have been watching "days" since day one off and on. enough of the drama let sami and ej get together, they have both grown.  Let's get some mystery back in like when bo and hope were in the tunnels, and the strangler was loose, i know we need to change with the times so i understand the current events, but let dan and jen alone, build characters that are coping with divorced parents and the issues that evolve for children i get really tired of all the "changing around back and forth" hope days is on until at least 50 years, and yes nbc i miss another world.

I have watched the show forever.  I don't like Kristin in it, I really didn't like Will being gay.   I like Sammie and all of her different sides.  Rafe is a good match for her.  E.J. is a good character, I liked him best with Nichol, they should make amends.  I don't want Chloe to be with Daniel.  I think he should be with Jennifer, they make a cute couple.  He should get his son away from Chloe.  She has been the bane of many of the men, and creates too many problems.  I think she is a crazy person.  It was neat to see John and Marlene for a short come-back, now they need to go off again, so that you can get rid of Kristin.  Brady needs to find someone new that he can really be good for him.  He lost his love and Kristin is just after making John and Marlene jump through hoops that they shouldn't have to.  I enjoy this program and have watched it for as long as I can remember.

I started watching this show over 38 years ago and some of the story lines leave much to be desired - like Marlina's demon possession and the WROST - Stephano coming back to life over and over again!  He is not even that interesting because in reality he would never get away with all the BS that they write for his character.  The stupidest one ever was when Jack went in as one actor and the next day it was someone new....so I tune in from time to time only to find that what I saw two weeks ago about someone dying is STILL dying.  Please let writeers that can keep the show interesting and moving along.  Thank you

not happy about will and sunny though...

can't stand two guys kissing and in bed  grrrrr.

Gosh I used to watch this show but then it got so quirky and stupid that I stopped watching it.

The story lines became repeats of the past with different faces with no drama, mystique or conclusion.

I watched in the 70's while at home with my kids, then not for 20 years while working. Now that I'm retired , I'm watching again! Amazing to see some of the same people still on! I, too, think the Will and Sonny thing made a point, and now it's enough....don't care to see them kissing again. The Daniel/Jennifer thing has gone on long enough,too.....let him and Chloe move away and be happy! Amazing how we get caught up in these fictional lives....lol.

So HAPPY "Days" has been renewed. I've watched this show "forever" & won't miss it, I tape it if I'm going to be away. Friends know not to call when "Days" is on. I'm a dedicated watcher & FEAR they will take it off, so glad my fear is gone for now ! Love all the characters on "Days" esp "Sammy", but miss BO. Hope he soon comes back.

WHOOP!!!!!!!  I do think that Sammie and EJ need to get together.  Will and Sonny's characters need to back off the in bed scenes and the kissing.  Will just needs to figure out that he really is not gay and he and Gabby need to get together and raise their Kid.  Kristen and Brady... YUK!!!!
