Meloni Mulls 'SVU' Drop-In

Former 'Law & Order' star discusses cameo possibilities during Comic-Con

For the past several months, Christopher Meloni's been reveling in his return to HBO as vampire figurehead Roman on Season 5 of "True Blood."But no matter how far left the actor zigs toward profane, murderous baddies like Roman or psychopath Chris Keller on "Oz,"  "Law & Order" diehards will always always wonder when he'll zag back to NBC and "SVU."


TV Guide reports that, during a "True Blood" panel this past weekend at  Comic-Con, Meloni was asked whether he'd ever make a return guest appearance as Detective Elliot Stabler on "SVU," a role he inhabited for nearly 300 episodes. His response? "I'm always willing to consider," he politely offered. "I had 12 great years on the show. I loved the people and I loved that character. There's no bad blood there. We'll just see when it comes. It's still doing OK, I guess."


Granted, that answer's more diplomatic than iron-clad, but once the words "always" and "consider" pop up in the same sentence, it invariably leads to excitable speculation (i.e. gossip). Which, in turn, could lead to a fan-driven campaign that lands Meloni back in his NYPD blues. Unless he opts to make career decisions based on his own personal enthusiasm and creative interest. Booooring.
 
 
"Law & Order: SVU" returns Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. "True Blood" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.

Elliot Stabler owes Capt. Cragun a lot.  After shooting and killing that teenager, perhaps with time Stabler will be able to return to the unit to help Cragun out of the obvious set-up in the season finale.  As far as the other detectives on the show, Munch (Richard Belzer, the great) and Fin (Ice-T, the great), they are wonderful.  The two new detectives, not so much.  There is no chemistry with the two new detectives.  And as far as the DA (Harry Connick, Jr, lushious), he is wonderful but he and Benson?  ARGH!

 

Now Mariska acted her butt off this season.  She, Munch, Fin and Cragun carried the show.  Should Meloni not return and they do not use Munch and Fin more, the show is going down the hill to cancellation, it has had a good run.  But should Meloni return, the ratings will bring NBC back.  With the exception of 30 Rock, there just aren't a lot of good shows on NBC.

PLEASE CHRIS COME BACK ASAP.  YOU ARE NOT A VAMPIRE.  YOU WILL ALWAYS BE ELLIOTT STABLER.  BE GLAD YOU WILL BE REMEMBERED FOREVER AS THAT GREAT CHARACTER. E/O WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE TV CHARACTERS.

I am loving chris on true blood and personal I think he has added some spice to true  blood this season. I can understand why he left SVU miss him, but can understand and hold no hate aganist him becasue I love him as a actor. If he does want come back I welcome it with open arms. I stopped watch SVU when he left, personal I think it is time to pull the plus on the show, it is been on to long. I will always love as stabler but  I can see why he left and he is kicking some **** on true blood. love him .. I would like to see him in other things.

Sorry folks as a long time fan it took 12 years to get the chemistry right on Law and Order SVU. It has been weakened to point it is just not worth watching. As a retired Cop I know when it is real enough to make it worth it
and it was; t no longer Meloni need to return. Let him and Hargitay bring up the next generation together that is only way it works. I am with Crim Intent only SVU leaves a realo hole.

I haven't watched L&O: SVU much since Chris Meloni left the show, maybe four or five episodes. The show just didn't seem to be the same and frankly, bored the hell out of me. It lost it's edge and the new characters are not compelling at all. It's time NBC pulled the plug on this old war horse.

I do not want Chris Meloni back on SVU and I am glad that he was written out of the show.  He drove me up the damn wall with the everybody is guilty and even if the person was cleared he still wanted to put the person in jail.  No, he should not get with (as in romantically) with Olivia Benson.  Sorry that would ruin the show.  Let him stay with his wife and kids.  As for the current episode with Cragen getting caught in the bed with the dead hooker, which I don't think he did (I have a feeling that woman who has the escorts did that and I think it is the girl who asked for help) is going after the unit since they went after her and the former governor was killed.  Who I would love to see if Finn use his buddies from his old unit to get that heifer who set Cragen up, and I would love to see McCoy go after that heifer also.  I miss Jack McCoy.  I do agree that Pinto (reminds me of Benjamin Bratt's Det. Ray Curtis) and I don't like Giddish (for some reason she is not a good cop to me or believable).  I am upset that I haven't seen Richard Belzer a lo.

I stopped watching SVU when Chris left. Now that he might be coming back, I will tune in once again. I loved that show with him. It has not been the same since he left. Hurry back Chris.

I think the new dynamic is working even better than before. At first I thought it would no longer be good show without him but I was wrong. I love the revamped cast and Munch, Ice T and the Dan Florek all have increased roles and responsibilities. The new kids are great too. And of course Marishka is superb. Don't consider allowing him to return even for a cameo appearance because if he really loved the show and the people, he would have stayed or asked for more time to do other things. 

Greed is a terrible thing to have!

He and Oliva are the TEAM!  Things aren't just quite the same....we miss you Chris!  I mean, Detective Stabler!

If he comes back - so will I !!!!!!!!  Tried watching but just couldn't get into the two new characters especially Kelli Giddish's.  They already have Olivia - what did they need her for?  Stll love Munch and Finn.

Bring Elliot back to SVU so him and Olivia can be together again. Elliot and Olivia deserve to be happy together

I think that Meloni should return given how this season ended with Captain Cragun in bed with a dead body and blood on his hands.  Elliot Stabler owes Cragun a lot.  And perhaps the scripts would improve because I have not been impressed this year to even watch when it is on-i watch it on hulu when i have time.  The talents of Mariska Hargitay, Richard Belzer, Ice-T and Dann Florek have been wasted in this past season. No offense to Pinto or Giddish, their characters are not well written and do not add to the show.  The show needs to fish or cut bait.

While I would welcome Meloni back to the show, SVU has serious issues his return wouldn't fix. The scripts this year have been weakly plotted and poorly written. Even worse, the producers have apparently forgotten the name of the show is Law and Order. When's the last time we saw a courtroom scene on any episode? They've been few and far between, and more often than not a apparent afterthought. IMHO, the show has become a  copy of Law and Order-Criminal Intent, and not a very good one.
