Zooey Deschanel is made for TV

Actress said if 'New Girl' were a movie, she might've been overlooked

If "New Girl" were on the big screen, Zooey Deschanel said she wouldn't be the star because movies are more restrictive.

"Some of the smartest people run the network I'm on," Deschanel, 32, said of her FOX bosses in the February issue of Glamour. "I'm proud of what I did in film. But getting to do the stuff that I was passionate about was such an uphill battle. If 'New Girl' had been a movie, I don't know whether I would have been given the opportunity to do it."

Deschanel also used the article as a platform to fire back at critics who have been trashing her girlie ways and "adorkable" persona ever since "New Girl" became a hit. The sitcom returns with new episodes Tuesday, Jan. 8.

"I'm just being myself," Deschanel said. "There is not an ounce of me that believes any of that crap that they say. We can't be feminine and be feminists and be successful? I want to be a f------ feminist and wear a f------ Peter Pan collar. So f------ what?"

Deschanel went on to say she pities writers who have made careers out of criticizing her style and accomplishments.

"If you are tearing down somebody who has forged her own path just for wearing a tiara, rethink your priorities," she said. "I never stop myself from doing something because I'm afraid of what people might think."

"New Girl" Season 2 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.

Zooey Deschanel and her sister Emily Deschanel are both smart, funny, and hot. I hope they both stay in show business!!!!!!!

The entire cast of "New Girl" should be honored for their quirky contributions to the TV landscape.  And Zooey Deschanel is leading a group with her usual brilliance, made even more so by her character's quirkiness.  Long may they all reign on FOX!!!

I love Zoey -- her quirky character on New Girl is the only reason to watch this show -- and she has done some great indie films too -- cute, funny, sings nice, and posesses real intelligence -

I think she is beautiful from head to toe and it seems that she is real on stage and off!  I would love to meet her in person!

I like her as an acress, and I like her singing style, but her tone  is very flat with no vibrato. Suits her kind of music, but that doesn't make her a great singer by far.

I absolutely LOVE Zooey, and have for a long time (since Bridge to Terrabithia).  And I do love her in New Girl, but really, New Girl is just HORRIBLE!  The writing is terrible, the acting (other than Zooey) is bad....I don't know, it's just hard to watch, and I ONLY watch it because of Zooey.  Oh, she SO deserves a decent show, but she doesn't have it here.

I love Zooey especially when she sings.  Ever since she sang in Elf, I got hooked onto her singing.
She has that swinging voice that I adore! Wish she has more shows where she can do more singing.  She should even make more singing albums. Her Christmas cd is wonderful.
